I'm due for an upgrade.  Sprint has a promo going on this weekend where I can get $200 for trade in on a S2.   Does anybody have a Note 5 yet?  Reviews seem to be a bit mixed.

Not being able to remove the battery is kind of a deal breaker for me. The people I have talked to that have them love them. That being said. They haven't been on the market for more than a few days. I would just wait a month or so and then look up reviews.

I'd wait a bit and let the first-gen'ers get them, find the issues, whine about them until Samsung/Providers fix 'em.  I jumped from the Note 3 to a Note 4, and that Note 4 had battery problems like you wouldn't believe.  Ultimately landed on the Note Edge, which I'm not crazy about.  YMMV, but I'd say wait a bit.

Note 5 is a fine phone. Physically smaller than the Note 4, but same screen size. Depends on how badly you want a SD card slot. I am willing to bet that the majority of people don't change out batteries or use sd cards. I just use a power pack on the go to recharge.

Battery life is okay. First real day of use 100%-2% Off the charger at 8AM and back on at 11:30PM. 3.5hrs of screen on time with 45min of Google Maps navigation in there.

Definitely need a case though. Glass back is rather slick.

Lol. There isn't any "first gen" when it comes to a new phone. The next one will be released in a year anyway so any "revisions" are just going to be deferred to the new model.

The SD card doesn't bother me.  I have a SD card in my S4 but if I copy photos off on a regular basis I wouldn't need it.  I'm more concerned about the battery going to shit but I have a portable charger that I keep with me when I am out and about.

...so long as the manufacture provides ample flash drive space its not a problem. However, in the case of the Note theres only 64 gigs for the max available, subtract for the OS, and you're down to @50 gigs.  That ain't gonna cut it.

Will not be getting a note 5. My phone now is starting to reboot itself randomly. Takes 2 minutes for a call to connect and dial (with full bar service), screen freezes and the TouchWiz goes to shit and crashes.

Yeah, I've got a Note 4, and I have no intention of getting a Note 5. The SD card is a big deal for me. I keep a lot of stuff on my phone, and I don't always have reliable internet or want to pay for the data to get it from the cloud. I hope they pull their head out of their ass for the Note 6, or I'll be getting something else next time around.

Correct, it doesn't have 3.0.. but it has 2/3 other features at least.

Specifically.. 3.0 is useful for all the things 3.0 is useful for on desktops and laptops.... data transfer speed.    What's the point of big storage numbers if it takes forever to transfer the data?

You know that any microUSB still fits in the 3.0 port right?  It just has additional pins for increased data rate.  It's 100% backwards compatible.  So, it can use the same charger.

I passed on them due to the AMOLED screen + ghosting/burn-in issues associated with that tech.

Also, Samsung devices are pretty much un-rootable.

+ this:

No SD card slot?  No ability to change batteries when one goes bad?  It's not like those batteries will hold optimal charge for more than a year of use.  Plus batteries are lighter to carry in a pack than a battery pack thingy, not to mention the inefficiency of using an external battery pack vs swapping phone batteries.

I want to keep my phone for at least 3 years.  I want to be able to carry more storage than what's on the device.  I want to be able to swap that storage when one fills.  (I take lots of pix).

Remove those features + AMOLED screen that is more likely to fail before 3 years are up....no sale.  Samsung devices are sexy, that's for sure.  But they aren't for those of us who want to exceed the manufacturer's intended replacement interval.

Lucky you guys. I went to tmobile and told them about it, and they recommended a factory reset. They said if that didn't work, that they would exchange it for another one and only charge me $5 due to a software issue. Vs the $100 to get a whole new one otherwise. The reset worked for a couple of months, now it's going to shit.

Might be making a trip soon.

You sure are awfully concerned with what I do with my phone

3.0 is 10x faster than 2.0 with nearly 2X the charge rate.  If that doesn't matter to you then so be it.

Personally, I can't wait for USB3.1 / Type-C adaptation

Because you are awfully enamored with USB 3.0 and cited it as a reason NOT to buy the phone without seeming to have a reason that a phone should have USB 3.0.

Again, other than the S5 and Note 3, name a phone that had USB 3.0.

USB 3.0 isn't a factor in phone selection. A phone is not a flash drive or portable hard drive. QuickCharge charges phones faster than the Note 3 ever did.

USB type C will definitely be a factor due to power and interface.

I have had the Note 4 for about a month now and I use it a lot at work. The S-Note pad works great for jotting down quick notes on vital signs, ins&outs, H&P's, med lists, doses and to do lists. Plus, I have a quick drug app that I can look up any medication if I am not familiar with it or if the patient has questions. I use it heavily from 7am through to 7pm and I have roughly 50% charge when I plug it in at 10:30pm. I bought a couple of extra batteries for it and haven't used them other than to charge them up. I am beginning to think I wasted my money on them.

My Note 2 had similar battery life as well. I used it a shit-ton at work too. I had four extra batteries for it and never used them unless I was out camping with no power access. I had great luck with the Samsung Note Series phones. They are a great tool and have made my job a lot easier. I could not imagine not having the S-Note feature. The expandable storage (Micro-SD) is a great selling point, but I have yet had the need for it. I am in the camp of thought that it is better to have and not need it.

Because you are awfully enamored with USB 3.0 and cited it as a reason NOT to buy the phone without seeming to have a reason that a phone should have USB 3.0.

I cited it as one of THREE reasons not to buy a Note5.  YOU are the one who has been harping on it and I actually, I gave two reasons for it on a phone.  Data rate & charge speed.  I don't always have a dedicated charge port vs a laptop port for charging (quickcharge cannot apply from a data port).  Data rate for backsups,  10x faster.   Also worth noting is that the Note3 DOES have quickcharge.

I haven't said their are other options.  But as a company, why would you ever downgrade to an old standard and lose capability.

It isn't a factor for you.  It is for me.   And no, it isn't a flash drive but it contains one.  It's a handheld computer and I use it as such.  Are you saying you would chose USB2.0 over 3.0 on your desktop/laptop?  Perhaps you'd rather have a standard 802.11A instead of 802.11AC as well?   I mean, it's not a router so it doesn't matter right?
