Better question is to name a modern celebrity that served. Many, many served in WWII. Even a few in Viet Nam. How many with currently recognizeable names or faces served even a single term? We don't have a draft now. So you're saying modern day service in the all volunteer force is more of a personal sacrifice than in the past? |

Although Eddie Albert has already been mentioned, his Wiki entry is pretty interesting.
"Prior to World War II, and before his film career, Albert had toured Mexico as a clown and high-wire artist with the Escalante Brothers Circus, but secretly worked for U.S. Army intelligence, photographing German U-boats in Mexican harbors.[7] On September 9, 1942, Albert enlisted in the United States Navy and was discharged in 1943 to accept an appointment as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat "V" for his actions during the invasion of Tarawa in November 1943, when, as the pilot of a U.S. Coast Guard landing craft, he rescued 47 Marines who were stranded offshore (and supervised the rescue of 30 others), while under heavy enemy machine-gun fire." |

Ted Stevens, (former senator WWII),After graduating from high school in 1942, Stevens enrolled at Oregon State University to study engineering,[11] attending for a semester.[9] With World War II in progress, Stevens attempted to join the Navy and serve in Naval Aviation, but failed the vision exam. He corrected his vision through a course of prescribed eye exercises, and in 1943 he was accepted into an Army Air Force Air Cadet program at Montana State College.[9][11] After scoring near the top of an aptitude test for flight training, Stevens was transferred to preflight training in Santa Ana, California; and received his wings early in 1944. Stevens served in the China-Burma-India theater with the Fourteenth Air Force Transport Section, which supported the "Flying Tigers", from 1944 to 1946. He and other pilots in the transport section flew C-46 and C-47 transport planes, often without escort, mostly in support of Chinese units fighting the Japanese.[9] Stevens received the Distinguished Flying Cross for flying behind enemy lines, the Air Medal, and the Yuan Hai Medal awarded by the Chinese Nationalist government.[9][12] He was discharged from the Army Air Forces in March 1946.[9] who was framed for a felony, almost won an election afterward, had the felony expunged and the prosecutor censured by the DOJ and Obama Care passed while he wasn't elected) Don young( US Army , Congressman from Alaska, dude could run against Jesus and stand a fighting chance of winning).
