So there was a kickstarter a while ago for a personal flamethrower... it seemed intriguing and with the economy where it's been, it can't hurt to help fund a new company.
They had a few videos and photos available, and it seemed useful, so we did our part, and a few months later, voila! The XM42 is the world’s first fully handheld, grab and go flamethrower on the market. No heavy pressurized tanks, no silly car-wash sprayers. The first units have finally shipped, so we have ours in hand and are ready to start eradicating spiders around the house. 
This is a battery-powered electric pump multi-fuel flame-thrower that shoots a stream of fire 25 feet. Approved fuels are gasoline, gas+diesel mix, or alcohol, and it relies on a food-service 8oz butane canister for the pilot torch. It does include an electric ignitor for the torch, so operation goes something like this:
We're waiting on the butane canisters to arrive, as I was not able to find any at Walmart before real testing begins. However, we did run it for a function test using a propane torch and it works exactly as advertised. Need to work with the fuel mixtures a bit to find the best combination. So now, WHY would anyone need this? They describe melting ice, weeding, starting bonfires, but in reality there are a number of other uses we have yet to discover! These are currently available from their website for $899. We've ordered a few and will have one at the Canton store for people to check out. Impressive. You're an interesting guy, that's for damn sure. Looks like a hell of a lot of fun to to me. I can see that gizmo being a great defensive surprise at a SHTF location......or mounted to the bed of a truck.....or roof of an SUV. Low flying helicopter hog hunting/BBQ all in one trigger pull.....the possibilities are endless. |

I made a better one about 15 or so years ago...took an old electric roll around pressure washer, a 15 gallon drum of diesel and gas mixture, stainless hose clamped a propane torch to the end of the wand and plugged the bitch in...quite fun...
Pretty much the same as this...I used a zero degree tip...

State or US Forest Service agencies could use them for controlled burns. My dad worked for the Texas Forest Service, all he had was a 5 gallon drip tank that he walked around with. They could use them fighting fires too, for burn backs.
