I've got a Durafly F4U Corsair that I need to do a few repairs on to get it airworthy again.
Tip stall (which is very common on the real thing) while coming around for a landing ripped the left wing off. Should be an easy fix when I have the time. Even scale warbirds are a bitch to fly at times. Durafly Corsair from Hobbyking

Quoted: I used to love watching Baa Baa Black Sheep when I was a kid http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073961/ Come to think of it, the next time life presents me with a new dog, I might just name it Meatball. Alright, somebody tell me where I can buy a ride in one of these. |

Loved the plane from that movie. F4u and P47 are my favorites, the US has a lot of great planes during the war. |

the gull wings, if I am not mistaken, were needed so the 13 foot prop would not hit the runway. engineer: " hey boss the props to big." Boss: "just bend the wings, it might look cool too." There ie a book called "Whistling Death" by Boone Guyton who was the primary test pilot for Chance/ Vought on the Corsair. It is a fantastic read in the development of that aircraft. |

also, the F4F Wildcats were pretty cool, in their own utilitarian way.... http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/24500000/Great-Planes-great-planes-24573960-1024-683.jpg Almost all of the planes from ww2 had a utilitarian look to them, particularly the earlier models. Except for the Spitfire. That one was boner-inducing from day 1.

Durafly Corsair from Hobbyking http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/catalog/duraflycorsair-20851.jpg Just a heads up, if you're not familiar with RC aircraft, the Durafly version isn't for you. This thing is unstable as hell on take-off with realistic rollover of the real deal. It needs airspeed to keep it stable, and you need to come in hot on the landings. The props are glass (I'm using a MAS three-blade for replacement), and the retracts break on hard landings or in grass. A very nice alternative is the Horizon Hobby E-flite that has SAFE mode which is a stabilization system which makes it easier to fly. When you get good at it, you can turn stabilization off and enjoy how much the plane wants to move. Here's the E-flite: E-flite corsair from Horizon Hobby |

In a round about way you are right. Originally it had a straight airfoil and long wheel struts, being designed as a carrier based aircraft, the hard impact of carrier landings would snap off the wheel struts. So engineers came up with the idea of swooping the wing down and shortening the strut and it worked. |

I swear I've flown trainers that were harder. Sucky thing is it's meant to be belly landed. One hard landing in the grass and I ripped one of the joke landing gear off. |

There was one at the small local airport near where I live. I haven't seen there in a while though. But I used to love rolling slow passed the airport just to see it.
Is it weird that I wanted to hear the guns firing? |

There is a story that goes around in aviation circles. Says there was a rich guy who had a wife who thought she was a hot shot pilot. The story goes he wanted to get rid of her so he bought her an F4U. Supposedly he was successful.
Story could be BS but who knows. |
