With free long distance and unlimited nights and weekendsI spend a lot of time on my cell phone.  Good for the balance in the bank account but not the most comfortable thing to hold onto for more than a few minutes.  What I need is a full size, comfortable handset that I can use when I'm sitting at my desk.  What I'd like to do is take a hadnset from an old desk phone and wire it to the plug from a handsfree set.

Will this work?

If it can be done, which wires go with which?  The hadnset has 4 wires (I assume pos & neg for the speaker and pos & neg for the mic) while the hadnsfree sets appear to be have 3 connections.

Thanks in advance.

This is an interesting question. I don't see why it wouldn't work. The three wire set is probably sharing a common ground where the four wire set is not. The speaker and the mic are a LOT bigger in a traditional headset, so I am not sure if the cell phone has enuff juice to push it. You might need an amplifier. As fun as this might be to make work, it would probably be cheeper to just get a decent, comfortable handsfee set. Please feel free to ask any other questions if you try this. I will be going to the patent office tomorrow and need to get my design finished.[:D]

Hell, you make it and I'll buy one.  I just want something more comfortable to hold.

A potential problem is that cell phones are so small and light that a coiled handset cord will lift it up and it'll be bouncing around.

Maybe what I really need is a desktop charger that has a handset jack in it.  Now there's an idea.
