Hi guys,

This has happened twice now. I try and install windows 10 and it will make it all the way to around 90% ish and then reboot. I get a black screen and it gets stuck. No matter how long you wait it does nothing. I hard boot the pc and it restarts. It reverts back to my old version and loads like normal.

Any ideas? I tried googling and came up with a bunch of issues but nothing I read helped.

Thanks

How old is the computer you are trying to set it up with ?

There's gotta be an install log somewhere. Find it, and look for clues.

How long did you wait?

I've done 2 PCs now and there is a looooong black screen at about the point you describe. I was starting to get concerned about my wife's laptop but it eventually continued the install. The black screen was displayed for almost 10 minutes.

Uninstalled it on the Mrs computer, it's about 7 years old.
All sorts of weird stuff happened, mostly graphics stuff but it still would hang randomly.
Went back to Windows 7 and it's all good again.

are you doing a manual install or the upgrade button?

If you downloaded separately to do a manual install... there may be an incompatibility somewhere that's messing things up.  If you did the upgrade button... it should be going smoothly as they wait to let you upgrade until after they have resolved such issues...

If you're having this problem with the second option there must be some log somewhere...

Anti-virus or hardware conflict.
Disable anti-virus software and try again.

According to the MS site.

I disabled avast and started fresh by deleting all of the update files. It got to the same point and froze.

OK. I finally got it working.

I had to completely remove avast and malwarebytes and try again. Disabling them didnt work. Now its working fine.
