I got my Spyderco Endura in the mail monday....awesome blade!!  However, my Mini-Griptillian was just gathering dust.  It's 5 years old or so and the blade wasn't well cared for.  Duller than hell and partially serrated which I used to love but now I don't care for.  Just for the hell of it I asked BM how much they'd want to replace it with a plain edge....$30!! Given that it's a $90 knife that's a bargain in my opinion!

Again, I love my Endura!  But getting this fixed will let me have another blade to choose from.

Just figured I'd share in case anyone else was curious what Benchmade would want to do such a thing.

Benchmade is awesome. Send it in, you will be pleased. Ive sent a bunch in, always happy with the "spa" treatment.

Spa treatment?  I'm guessing that means cleaning, sharpening, tightening, etc...

They are insisting I send it in even though it's only a hex-bolt that's holding the blade.  Shouldn't cost more than a few bucks to send it in but I don't see why I can't do it.

I'm also going to request they sharpen the old blade and send that back.  I mean I already paid for it right?  That way I'll have a replacement on hand just in case.

The mini is awesome. I love mine. It's a great summer carry when you are dressing light.

I LOVE al of my Benchmades.
Did the same exact  thing as you a while back, and it cost $30 as well, not for nothing, I really feel as though the should've shipped me back the old blade with it, I mean WTF I paid for it, what if down the rode I decide I want it again?

Blades have to be fitted to the knife to assure smooth operation and reliable lockup.

Wait...they KEEP the old blade???  No thanks.  I already paid for that.

Well Benchmade confirmed they KEEP the other blade.  The excuse given is that they don't want counterfeiters putting a fake handle on it.  I'm waiting to hear back from them in regard to if they get sent a grip that has no blade.  I'm guessing they'll say they won't do the service or that it voids some warranty...so they can't provide the service.

Unless that's a loophole and they'll perform the service, I'll save my $30 and stay away from BM in the future.

Now if this is an industry standard, that's a different issue.  Anyone know if Spyderco, Kershaw, etc....does the same thing??

EDIT:  Just found out Spyderco doesn't even offer the service.  They either resharpen/repair the original blade or replace the whole knife.  So I guess getting to pay $30 even though I only get one blade out of the deal isn't that bad.  Better than paying $75+ for a whole new knife.

Also just realized I have a full size Griptillian...not the mini.  I held it up against my Endura and the blades were almost the same size.  Made me wonder how big the full size Griptillian was if this was only the mini....nope...it's full size.

Thanks
