From horizon to horizon, a single file convoy of equipment.

I remember the same pics from the last Gulf War.

Why not two abreast or four?

Four abreast would get the last truck in line to its destination four times faster.

I’m very sure there is a good reason; I was just trying to visualize Dallas traffic in single file.

Mines, they are in open desert and could all run side-to-side but mines will get you every time. They do seem bunched up. Shouldnt they be at least 50meters apart??

They have to stay very close to each other or they will get seperated from the column with all of the dust. It may not be to bad for the first four or five vehicles, but in the back you can't see shit. Also by driving single file they create less of a dust plume (or that is the theory anyway).

Single file gives them a "beaten path" to follow. It also allows them manuever room, left right if something happens.

I've heard about being spaced out. I think that is usually a concern where then enemy has air power. The problem is that it spreads out your firepower, and makes it more difficult for your ADA to cover you, since they have to cover a larger area.

I think most of the footage we are seeing is near the border, and they are bunched up because there are just a few paths through the berms. Once the get out into the opne the may spread out. Then again they may not, it may depend on the speed they want to move at, minefields, and enemy force status.

I think they know better than us what the situation is where they are.

If you flick to CNN the 3/7th Cav are all out on line.

If your watching Fox they are with HHC 2nd Brigade, 3rd ID and they are driving single file in order to keep all the press vheicles, that don't have radio, in line.

The CNN crew with A/3/7th Cav are apparently being told to stay between the mortar carriers and a Air Force M113 in the center of the formation and when they pan either left or right as far as you can see are 3 troops of cav all on line.

Siren just sounded in Kuwait.

With the fox crew, you can see the cones lining the path through the mines that was cleared by the engineers.  They are staying in that lane.

The engineers must have been in Iraq for a long time to have made miles and miles of cleared paths.
