Had to wait 15m for a cab so tried to grab Uber. Fare estimate was $69. Cab was $20 including tip.
Even without the 1.8x demand multiplier, it's more expensive. |

If you are such a big roller, just bite the bullet and pay the Uber fare. If you treat people poorly on the site, you really shouldn't get butthurt when someone calls you on your poor behavior. |

I'm actually a registered Uber driver (long story, and I'm not typing it out here) Yes, they do a background check. They also validate your registration and insurance and DL and some other stuff. They approve you for a specific car which you must own. I have three cars and I am only allowed to drive one (one is a two door, and the other is a supercab truck They only want in you in 4 full doors so people don't have to fold seats, etc) You don't get to see the results of your check, you just get a yes / no (pretty much like most jobs I guess). As best as I can tell they just use a thrid party that checks your state / fed criminal records. I can guarantee you that they aren't getting down to the police blotter / local level / arrest records. Just convictions. Shitty driving history will exclude you, I don't remember the specifics on that as my driving record is pretty clean so I didn't even read the fine print. |

Fuck all that. One advantage to living in Houston is that cars are cheap and public transportation and cabs suck. If you don't have a car then you're pretty much screwed down here.
