At UNM, a bunch of college-age idiots are raising hell, blocking traffic, making asses of themselves, etc, etc....

ERT, K9, and SWAT are on-scene, and have popped pepper spray type gas.  One kid went up and tried to kick the gas canister away.  He ended up gagging and coughing his ass back to the sidewalk.  The protestors ( aka jackass kids) are claiming that it is tear gas, it is not.  If it was their asses would be out of there.

I swear UNM produces some of the worst liberal idiots in the country!!!!!

I have good friends on Alb. SWAT.  May God watch over them tonight.....

You know, if they actually had a legitimate protest, I'd be pissed if the police peppered them.  But, they don't.  You're right.  They are a bunch of in-crowd idiots.

I think they should employ non-lethal shotgun rounds on the ones causing the destructive vandalism.  Either that, or the property owners should defend their property with appropriate force.

3/20/2003 5:54:34 PM EDT

Weekend before last, I was with Alb. SWAT.  I saw firsthand what a bean-bag round from a shotgun would do to an oak tree from ten feet...

HOLY CRAP!!!!  OUCH!!!!

Still, they are being jackasses.  I say, if they take one step toward officers, bean-bag 'em

They're free to protest up till the point of infringing upon others rights. Once they cross that line, verbal orders are given. Refusal of these orders, combined with the riot mentality/activity, necessitate the use of force.

All they gotta do is wear homemade riot armor (magazines worn around the torso, like a vest) to avoid the bean bags.

Bring out the rock salt!!!!!!!!!!!!
3/20/2003 6:11:14 PM EDT
[#5]
OH, cry me a river.....

If they physically threaten an officer they should be stopped.  Obviouslt the "gas" is not stopping them.  Would you rather they be stopped with lethal means???

They sure as hell aren't my children.  My child would nevefr go to that damn liberal college.  The regents at UNM literally encourage this crap to take place!!!

Protesting is one thing.  Destroying property, assaulting officers, and causing general mayhem are certainly different.  They are not a form of freedom of expression.  They forms of breaking the law!!!

Enhanced for those who move their lips as they read.

They are our fellow citizens, as foolish as they are, and deserve as much respect as we would show any other mental incompetent. And yes, since they are OUR fellow citizens, and are really CHILDREN, then they are OUR CHILDREN in a greater, non-Hillary-Clinton-freaky-shit way.

I also strongly belive in freedom of speech.

I believe in the right to protest.

But not when it gets violent which apparently it did in Albuquerque, and San Francisco.

If you protest and you cross the line and start breaking the law, well my friend you get what you deserve.

Protesting at a time like this in a VIOLENT,LAWLESS manner only exhaust our resources.
The police who have to quell these IDIOTS need to be protecting our homeland right now and these IDIOTS are making that a little difficult right now.
3/20/2003 6:19:26 PM EDT
[#8]
And since the are OUR children, we must teach them the appropirate, non-VIOLENT means of protest. Kids sitting on a sidewalk dont get gassed or shot. Kids displaying assaultive behavior do. And rightfully so.

Oh, and BTW, it's spelled [size=6]absence[/size=6].

I must disagree with the "our children" theory.  These kids are 18, and over.  They are legally adults.  I am not worried about theri emotions, maturity, etc.

It's sad that the adult demonstrators are fairly well-behaved, pro-war or not.  It's the "our children" that are jerks.

oh look, here's one of the goofball "children" on TV now, showing off his straberry froma bean-bag round!!!!!  His quote, while showing the "mark" off:  "Here's my tax dollars at work..."

He's a full-time college kid that is out protesting when not at class!!  How the heck is he paying tax dollars???

Yes ,
they are citizens who are breaking the law that deserve to be treated like any other citizen who break the law.

They deserve to have the silver bracelets placed on their wrists. If they resist, they deserve what they get because they made the choice to cross the line while they protested.

I fully belive  you have the right to LAWFULLY protest. They made the choice to cross the line. Now they will pay for it.

Liar liar pants on fire.

The Seattle NWO riots were largely police instigated. I have seen the video tape and read the reports.

I watched people sitting on the ground being shot repeatedly in the face from inches away with pepper pall from paintball guns. Right in the fucking eyes, man.

Furthermore, when their own LEOs weren't turning out to have sufficient numbers they imported some goons to help out. They offloaded in a residential suburb a few miles from town where they were going to walk in. The LEOs decided it would be fun to gas people returning from work and little kids playing in their yards.

Don't try to BS me. Cops are often willing to stir shit if they get the chance. It makes the job fun.

Now it is coming out that there were no problems until the anti-war kids decided to start shoving the pro-war folks.

Mr Green,
If I remember correctly, you have a real problem with law enforcement in general.

You stirred the pot a few months ago on a thread about the family dog that had been shot in Tennessee. I personally think that the cops may have made some mistakes in that situation. but you were unreasonable about it.

Yeah? My sister is an MD and a lawyer as well. BFD.  Having been a LEO myself, as well as performing domestic covert ops, I can tell you that the infinitesimal minority of LEOs are jerks. The vast majority are honorable professionals who do their work, with little or no thanks, for a strong ethical committment to our country and society in general.

I'm not sure where you derive your opinion, but I suspect you've been arrested once too often. That might not be the case, but from my own experience, the people who rant against LEOs the most, have the most to lose.

The last protest the protesters were allowed to wander through halls, disrupt classes, and blocked traffic on Cental Ave for almost an hour.  When APD decided they had enough they called UNM for permission to disperse the croud, which they needed because the crowd was on UNM property.  It took over 40 min for the various vise presidents to decided to do something.  I cannot speak for the regeants, but the Administration is severly messed up.

Back on Halloween there was a riot nearby. I wasn't there.

Almost immediatley after there were people complaining they had been "gassed" or roughed up for no reason.

One of them, on the news said, I was just walking home from a friends house, and got gassed before I could get home. Oh by the way I have videotape of the police brutality. They showed some film. The media was "eating it up".

How many of you videotape yourself walking home from a friends house? Think about that for just a second. The person in the video was also not "non-confrontational" as he would have liked the audience to believe. He worked his way to the front of thae crowd that was on a street, that was closed to vehicle traffic, and blocked for foot traffic at one end. He got to the blocked end and started pushing against the barricades, and trying to get past the police.

Of course that didn't matter the stor was about police brutality and random "gassing" of citizens.

Next day the store owners in the area were on the news. They were talking about the property damage, and lost merchandise. They also released video of the "peaceful crowds" that claimed to have been gassed for no reason. The video recorded behavior that could not be honestly described as peaceful.

People have a Right to Freedom of Speach. The don't have the Right to damage other people's property, engage in riotous, or threatening behavior, or disrupt other people's Right to go about their business.

Unfortunatley many "protesters" don't care about their effect on other people. Nor do they have the maturity not to fall into a "mob mentality". They also aren't smart enough to realize what the effect of the behavior is, beofre during, or after the event.

Welcome to some combination of Brave New World, and 1984.

Boohoo. Some people didn't get home in time to watch "Friends", had to sit in a traffic jam, and had a late supper. Big deal.

In Portland it was demonstrated the the local LEO's only had half a clue how to control multiple moving groups of people, both mounted (bicycles) and on foot.

Look at it as an exercise for the future. Plain and simple. Shit happens.

People who do property damage should be arrested. Police who brutalize protests should come to justice. It's a rough world, and the lines get blurred. I wonder if ol Osama is smiling right now knowing that America is fighting amongst itself.

I saw halfway organized protestors today rush a line of riot cops on the steel bridge in portland, they had 2 make shift shields and almost broke the police line. They were not prepared to be peppered though.

The police use of mobilized tactics is poor when it comes to combating bicyles in the hundreds. OK for combating and controling crowds.

It's pretty obvious around here that if every one of those 'peaceful' protests had picked up a stick, or a rock, it would be the L.A. riots all over again, and the police are poorly trained to handle such a movement. They better fet their 'domestic covert ops' up to spec a little better before they try and combat multiple groups of hundreds of people set on disrupting the indrastructure en masse.

Regardless of any opinion of mine, or yours or anyone elses, an observation of tactics should be taking place by all of us. How our local governments respond to these types of things may someday effect US. Not just someone that we don't agree with, but someday it might be US that someone else doesn't agree with.

My Kindest Regards to you all from Portland,

-Full_Spectrum

My fullest regards also to people who have had property damaged, or have been harrassed by police by simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Wait, I've got it now. Domestic Covert Ops, it was something like "sneak the new AR-15 past the wife". Also known as Operation Safe-Filler.

It required [peep]
Then [flag]

If detected it could lead to [pissed], [nono], [cuss], and certainly no [sex] for you.

If you are succesful [banana]

Followed by [sniper2] the next time you go to the range.

You know the rewards, ridks, and the area the op will occur in, are you ready? [thinking]
