My dad as a FA Uzi that he got last year, it is a registered bolt gun so I guess that means it has been modified to run FA from what was originally a SA IMI gun. I am wanting to get him a replacement threaded barrel for it for his birthday but am unsure which one I need. I have been looking at the FA threaded barrels on the Green Mountain site and assume that is what I am looking for but wasn't sure if there was something wonky about it being a regiesterd bolt gun (as opposed to receiver) that would keep their FA barrels from working properly. Anyone have any ideas?

Your most likely going to need a "semi barrel" meaning there is a redacted ring that can be inserted into the semi feed ramp.
However it would be better if you get photos of the inside the receiver with the bolt removed to verify? Better yet a photo of the current barrel removed? |

Unless my squint is failing me, that looks like a necked down semi barrel.
Read this informative page for more info: UZI differences As others have said, Green Mountain makes good barrels and Robert RTG has a bunch of Uzi barrels in stock right now as well. |

That's a Semi-Auto barrel. It's turned down at the bolt end because it has a smaller restrictor ring(that's the part that the barrel fits into). That's done so that a full-auto barrel will not fit into a semi. http://www.uzitalk.com/reference/pages/FAconversions_mini.htm |

Thanks for that link, it is most helpful. I checked the RTG site and didn't see any threaded barrels, I would go with him if they did as I have bought a kit from them before. So it looks like I need the Semi barrel I guess. Probably better to just call Green Mountain to make sure. |

Semiautomatic Uzis have a "restrictor ring"/feed ramp assembly that requires the barrel to be smaller in diameter at the chamber end. They also have a smaller diameter hole in the trunion, which requires the barrel to be smaller diameter for the length that passes through the trunion. The chamber is different between the semiautomatic and fully automatic Uzis. The Uzi SMG chamber is more tapered, and is cut so that ignition begins a little sooner in the firing cycle, so that some of the bolt's forward momentum is used to resist opening of the bolt. While the semiautomatic chamber will work with the open bolt system, it is not optimal. SMG barrels can be turned down at the breech end and also the part that passes through the trunion to fit the semiautomatic receiver restrictor ring and semiautomatic trunion.
If sound suppression is your end goal, there are several suppressor manufacturers that make suppressors that will mount in place of the barrel nut without the need for a threaded muzzle. Such suppressors wil usually have higher internal volume to accommodate fully automatic fire. I've used my Gemtech Multimount with the Uzi adapter on a friend's FA mini Uzi for added grins. |
