For hunting in PA that will be mounted on a .223 bolt action Savage. Want something good but under 300. And what's the opinion on this?

My go to budget scope is the good old Nikon Monarch. IIRC my last 3-9 was +/- 300 but it's been a couple years. This looks good. https://www.nikonsportoptics.com/Nikon-Products/Riflescopes/MONARCH-3-2-8X32-Matte-BDC.html |

Thats a good scope but you don't want a fixed 10x for hunting. Quoted:

Still looking heavily but need pointed in the right direction. |

A lot of stores have them for 5-10% under MSRP, I have seen a couple camera shops that will order them in at low mark up also. |

For $50 more than your budget this is a killed deal. Look through their demo and open box list too. |

I like your train of thought! A great scope for your use would be Nikon's M-223 3-12 BDC 600/Rapid Action Turret. This scope is currently under a Promo by Nikon and $60 off. I use Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program to really dial in my rifle, scope and ammo for excellent longrange accuracy. Even with the $60 off this scope is still $39 over your suggested budget but defintely one worth taking a look at, IMHO.
I do some freelance PR/Shooting Event's for Nikon and I assure you, after literally 10's of thousands of rounds sent downrange the 2 scope's I used never had any problem's at all. One currently sit's on a 30 year old Savage heavy barrel single shot and the other on a DPMS Sweet 16. The Savage has been to S. Dakota 3 times with friend's Prairie Dog hunting and nothing but rave reviews. I don't do any sales at all, so if you're interested in this scope I'd suggest you take a look at some of this site's Sponsor's for assistance. Drop me a note if you have any question's. http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd363/bman940/M-223%203-12/spotonm-223.jpg Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

IMO this is the best deal going right now that comes in under $500. http://www.natchezss.com/2-10x36-tactical-precision-scope.html It is marked down significantly right now and the zoom range is a good fit for a hunting optic. |
