Spend some time in law enforcement, and this stuff will no longer surprise you. I got sent on a rape in progress once. When we got there, it was still going on. FWIW, my partner did give the suspect a good tasering. Despite the fact we had a cooperative victim and two police officers witness it, there was a plea bargain, and the suspect got a 2 year prison sentence. 2 YEARS FOR RAPE. Anyway, fast forward 5 or 6 years and he got arrested for murdering his girlfriend. Wow. Who would have thought a guy who rapes a woman would kill his girlfriend? Shocking. Our prosecutors like to boast about their impressive win percentage. Well, yeah, if you offer someone 2 years for a slam dunk rape case, I guess you can count that as a win. It does absolutely NOTHING to get terrible people off the streets however. |

My aunt was killed by a black dude who was drunk driving on a suspended license in a car with busted headlights and illegal tinted windows doing 60 in a 30 at 2am. My aunt was crossing the road in a legal crosswalk (though it had lights, all the streetlights were busted or nonfunctional) and this dude hit her and her body flew so high that someone got out their phone and dialed 911 before her body hit the ground. This dude is getting 6 years, 3 of which will probably be probation and house arrest. Oh, and the judge questions if my aunt having had a BAC within legal limits was a factor, and what she was doing crossing the street so late alone (the street is right next to her house). This is in Puerto Rico. |

Guy in my old home town decided one night that his wife wasn't going to get the kids, boys 7 & 9 IIRC, in the divorce. Yep I just said that. He put them to bed that night, locked the door to the trailer house from the outside and set the trailer house on fire. Burnt his own kids to death. The fire fighters told the cops he was sitting there balling his eyes out and kept asking "are they dead yet." This all happened a block from where I worked. He plead down to 2nd degree murder and got 20 years max. |

Quoted: Damn, I'm sorry Shit happens. Especially in PR. Funny thing is before I left PR for FL and then NV, I told my family "if you stay here, this place will kill you all." I hate being right. Anyway, you're in NV. You wouldn't happen to be in the Air Force, be named Sam, and have sold a 1911 a few days ago? |
