| For those who been in an extended firefight did you have any ear protection; did you suffer any damage to hearing? Guess what I'm asking is in the real world you won't likely have ears on, what effects did it have on your hearing? |

Quoted: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Dick. I'm just glad mine's not nearly as bad as most. Every now and then get a short burst...some of you poor bastards have it nearly all the time/all the time. Fuck that...noise. ![]() |

I have hearing damage. I attribute it mostly to engine noise for extended periods of time. Quoted:

I hate these threads....every time I see a thread with something about hearing loss my ears start buzzing
Fun though as I can watch change hit a concrete floor and its like someone turned the sound off on the other hand I've probably lost a lot of change because of it |
| i took a at4 backblast to my left ear, from about 30 yards. felt like i was kicked in the head, i was amazed there was no blood coming from my ear it hurt so bad. . ears rang for a week. now i have tinitus, as well as meneries disease and lots of balance issues due to that ear. so yeah.. easily get hearing damage in a gun fight. lots more things to worry about than rifle fire. |

Where do you think these came from? http://cdn3.volusion.com/cprpf.ljrds/v/vspfiles/photos/CAE02-2.jpg During OIF, whole units were rendered combat ineffective after house to house fighting due to degradation in their hearing from small arms, grenades, rockets, whatever. So those units that suffered hearing loss had to be pulled from combat duties? Combat ineffective has a very specific meaning. |

Wait, I see what you're saying - no, the actual units weren't pulled or disbanded, just that this was a very serious problem no one thought of that affected large groups at the same time. |

I can believe it was a problem, I too have seen first hand how annoying it is to try to communicate to a group of men who can't hear shit. I imagine this has been just as bad in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. No ear pro at all for those guys either. |
