Dude, I sure as hell did. Your title gave me goose bumps.
The Yamato!!!!!! |

I did. School ended at 14:30, Starblazers came on at 15:00. Distance from school to house 1.1 miles. That's a long way to run at 11 with a full load of school books on your back. But I did it, every day.

Checking in...
It was great. School was literally right down the block. We couldn't run fast enough. |

I was in Kindergarten in 79' and I recall watching that after school every day.

Yup. Favorite cartoon by a mile when I was a kid. Only came on that one half way shitty UHF channel that could be counted on to not work at least a couple times a week. No cable till I was in high school. Back when it was hard.

That was the one where all the people had bird costumes? They had a blue jet fighter looking space ship? I think I remember that one. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

We used to watch it in the barracks. There was a big TV/lounge area. The gunny would come out of his hole and shake his head when we all started singing the theme song.

Do yourself a favor and get your hands on the English dubbed Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Battle of the Planets was a dumbed down edited version of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. The original is much better. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Planets The Battle of the Planets adaptation differs significantly from Gatchaman.[5] The difference is due to heavy editing made to make the show appealing to the audience in the United States by removing controversial elements (i.e. graphic violence, profanity and transgenderism) while adding elements reminiscent of the feature film Star Wars, which was popular at the time. In fact the name "Battle of the Planets" was an attempt to associate itself with that popularity of Star Wars. While the original Gatchaman was earthbound, dark-toned, and environmentally themed, the adaptation morphed it into a kid-friendly outer space show with robot characters, although some environmental themes were kept, and this is also why the other planets to which G-Force traveled on missions looked very much like Earth. Setting, violence, objectionable language, and most character fatalities were altered or eliminated by cutting scenes, dubbing, and explanatory voiceovers (for instance, claiming that the city had been evacuated before a battle scene that would show the incidental destruction of buildings and houses, as well as explaining away the destruction of the Earth armies and air forces as being robot tanks and fighter planes). |

Star Blazers and Robotech, heck yeah. View Quote View Quote Was Robotech in the 80's? I never saw it. View Quote Yeah, Robotech was'85 IIRC. That one I did get to watch. 7am weekday mornings, bus pickup at 7:15. Learned how to use timer record on our Betamax VCR real quick for that. Eta: just realized it's the 30th anniversary, I hope they release another DVD boxset to commemorate it. |

Star Blazers was awesome! I can still remember most of the words to the theme song. I seem to remember watching it before school though. Of course, that was a long time ago so I could be wrong.

I went to elementary school in the 60s, cartoons were relegated to Saturday mornings.

Throw in some Johnny Quest and you have the blueprint to what the 70's/80's were like as kid. |

Robotech was THE show when I was a kid. We used to run around the neighborhood hunched over at the waist pretending we were the fighters in "Battleoid" mode. Many Zentradi were smoked by our tiny crew. I remember when the pilot in the blue Valkyrie, Max, got back from a dogfight and went on a date with the black chick who worked the command deck and then fell over on her living room floor and DIED. That was my first experience with a main character kicking the bucket on a show (a cartoon no less) and in an interracial relationship. Pretty heady stuff for '85 or so. |
