...or something like it. It wasn't easy and blood was shed.

I heard something at the door and like a fool I checked it unarmed. What waited for me was nothing other than the most ferocious beetle I have ever seen. He charged in and shot straight for the nearest light, undoubtedly in an effort to take away my sight.

He nearly made it but I deftly swept him out of the air with a glancing blow and snatched him up to finish him off with a quick bite to the head.

The attacker had different plans, however. He clawed his way to the tip of my finger to let loose a mighty roar. He attempted to goad me into taking the attack to him, all the while exposing the contents of his filthy maw.

Not to be outdone, I responded with the mightiest war-screech I could muster. This seemed to frighten the beast. Unfortunately, this bellow burned up nearly all of my energy reserves. I could see the world closing in, the vapors would be my undoing and I'd be left at the mercy of the creature.

But wait...Was he...Was he hugging my finger? Was I mistaken? Was the vile pest actually a ridiculously adorable, fuzzy little, snuggle bug after all? Was the bone chilling wail he unleashed actually a misunderstood sign of affection?

Perhaps it was my terrifying screech that placated the creature or perhaps it was simply prejudice on my part in assuming he wanted to end me. Whatever it was, I found a new friend.

Sadly, the SO discovered my new furry companion and wasn't so thrilled with him. So, long story short, anyone in the market for a new parakeet? He only hisses a little when you touch him.

Would you like to know more?

Those are good sauteed, with a light cream sauce, and accompanied by a crisp, yet sweet white wine from the Loire Valley. I recommend the garlic-cheddar scalloped potatoes and buttered Japanese snap peas to complete your meal.

Bon apetit.

You disapprove? Well, too bad! We're in this war for the species, boys and girls. It's simple numbers. They have more.

Did you not spend time outside as a child? I have poked and prodded damn near every bug I have ever seen and have come to the conclusion that there are very few biting beetles. None that are venomous and only a few that can actually irritate you, those being stink bugs and blister beetles and really those aren't even that bad. Loosen up the bubble wrap, bud
