[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Mini Cooper... Should I Fo? (Page 1 of 2)

| Looking for a cheap, small, fun car to drive the couple miles to work and park in a cramped parking garage. Test drove a privately owned 2005 regular model today with 110K on the odo. Drove like a charm. Very clean (short of a few hail dimples). He's high on the price, but I may be able to get him to something that we could agree on. Should I fo on this thing if the price is right? (I've always wanted a Mini.) |

My buddy posed this question on FB. A couple of our friends are dealership mechanics and replied that the auto trans in them are made of glass and crayons This is a manual if that makes any difference. Uh....no. I was looking for a used shitbox earlier this year, and every local dealer I spoke to said they decline to take a Mini on trade due to known problems. They do not want to deal with the hate. |
| I bought one for my wife in 2012. While it is a blast to drive, I would never own another one. It is always leaking something, it's had two new water pumps and a new fuel pump, it eats tires, the trim pops off regularly, the stripes have been replaced and eventually removed due to fading, I could go on and on. Never again. |

I had a coworker with one. She loved it, but repairs were expensive. If you want something small and cheap, why not a Ford Focus or something similar. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile I wound up with a 2005 Focus wagon with 175k on it. Runs great, gets almost 35mpg on the highway.

Mini Coopers are definitely homo bait. If that is your thing go for it. Shut up with all the faggotry guys. I really don't give a flying f#ck about your fixation with homosexuality. You're the one that wants to buy a Mini and your sayin' we're fixated on homosexuality?

This car is replacing our beater/dog hauler and will be driven by the wife more than me, so enough with your homophobic bullshit. BTW... my 2004 Toyota Tundra isn't a great short haul commuter. |

I know two guys with them.
One bought it intentionally, a Countryman. He seems to like it, but the run-flats have caused him problems, and he doesn't drive much. The other bought it for the ex-girlfriend to drive, and is currently driving it since the ex-gf is, well, the EX. Both seem to like them and think they handle well. Personally, if I wanted something fun and small... I'd keep looking. |

This one just had the clutch replaced last year, as well as the A/C. |

I had to rent a countrymen when my car was in the shop. I had the car for two weeks in February, horrible in the snow. It was fun when the roads were nice and dry, but impossible to drive in snow. I wouldn't buy one. Hmmmm... thats a concern. This has new rubber, but thats not gonna make a world of difference. |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Focus? no panache with that at all. I have a friend who's got a decked-out turbo model that's damn "sporty" (seriously... It's a full-on drift car), but yeah... It's hard to get excited about a Focus. The Soul is definitely the most appealing alternative to the Mini for us, as it does have its own funky thing going for it like the Mini does. Though I'm unaware of anyone turning a Soul into any kind of performance machine. I've rented Souls on two different occasions and both seemed like great little cars that would make great short haul commuters. I'm sure that the Focus would be perfect for that as well, but no style points there for sure. |

I like Minis, they have their quirks and the brake lights tend to come on often and for silly things along with the engine service light. Craigslist is loaded with many cheap older ones but they are a rich persons car for the most part, tons of them here around me. Its almost a standard issue CT car. |
