So I was out shopping today and had the windows down because it's nice out. Come home and the passenger side window goes up a little and then stops?
If I hit the switch it moves a little bit either up or down but will not completely open or close. Any ideas? Is this a regulator problem or a track problem? I took the door panel off and tried prying a little under the window while the wife was holding the switch and it simply won't go any higher. We are supposed to get some rain this week and would like to get this resolved. Are there any tricks to getting the window to go all the way up? |

Yep, regulator. It's happened three times on my 2000 Sierra. I keep the necessary socket, driver, etc. in my truck at all times along with a door stop to wedge against the window once it's freed up.
For now, you can remove the door panel and simply loosen the clamps securing the window. Once loosened, you can manually raise it back up and wedge it there with a door stop and some duct tape. The regulator/motor/tracks are sold as a complete unit (make sure you get the correct side) and are kept in stock at most of the auto parts stores around here at least. It's an easy repair. You can do it in a couple minutes with practice

As mentioned you can buy the entire kit, motor and tracks (regulator). I would recommend getting it at a local auto parts store with life time warranty. I purchased mine at Autozone so if it ever goes out again I take it back to them and get another one for free.
Have a nice day. Bill |

Driver's side door went out in about 2012, was moving slow and would hang up. I bought the new install kit with motor from NAPA and put it in a half hour. The old cable rusted and was jamming. Only a year and a half later the replacement was starting to drag it's ass. The passenger side one was starting too. I ended up selling the truck for a host of computer and rusting frame issues. Having a receipt good for another would have been useful if I wanted to keep the ole pig of a war wagon. |

I've replaced a ton of those. Living in WI (where people are always trying to get a frozen window unstuck with the motor) seems to really shorten the life of the cable. I miss the old days when they were gear driven. If you ever have frozen windows, don't keep trying to force it with the power window. Just wait until it thaws. |

Thanks guys for the responses. I was able to get the truck into my garage sonar least it can stay dry for the next few days. I will get it fixed sometime next week. The wife's car is in need of some repairs at the dealer Wednesday Again thanks |
