| Who is using TurboTax for the web to prepare and file their income taxes this year? I've never used this software but I think I'm gonna try it this year. I've heard its the easiest way to do it these days. |

You can go through the entire process to find out what it will calculate what you owe/get back w/o paying. That's kind of cool. Then when you pay, you get to e-file and it lets you download your return in pdf format for your records. I have used it the past 2 years for federal and state and like it. -Nuke |

I used TurboTax for years, and decided to switch this year to TaxCut. Go to Amazon. com and read the evaluations. This year, TT took an aggressive approach at stopping piracy, to the point that it caused problems with some peoples systems. Read the reviews to see more ... This does not guarantee a problem, and it may be fine for you, but I don't like spyware, and definately don't like this type of behavior by a low end software vendor. |

I did my taxes about six weeks ago, & IIRC, the activation process was an aggravation process. You would probably be farther ahead with Tax Cut. Intuit really screwed the pooch this year. You should search for some boards where they discuss tax s/w. In the past Turbo Tax has been real easy to use but that activation process has cost them a lot of customers & it will cause a lot of people NOT to use them next year. They added the activation because they seemed to feel that people would get their s/w free from friends. I have no way of knowing if that was a significant problem or not. Here is Intuit's website: www.turbotax.com Here is the Tax Cut website: http://www.taxcut.com/ In the past the software has been easy to use, & once you get past the activation process, it is still pretty easy. The information carry over feature is nice, but my limited experience has been that it essentially just carries over your name & address. The tax loss carry forward is OK, but you could just keep track of it manually very easily, too. |
