[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Radar Detectors (Page 1 of 2)

| Recon anyone knows the best ones for use on a scooter? I think I'll pay extra attention to my speed so I don't get stopped should I accidentally creep a mile two over the limit. |
|
Looks like that law went away since I last visited there. Good.
I have both the Escort 9500i and the V1. They both have their advantages but I run the Escort in my daily driver as once it learns where a false alarm generating automatic door is it stops beeping. The V1 is far more noisy even in the city mode. |

Get the Escort Passport Max 2 and don't look back.
It's $540-600 depending on where you shop. It's probably the most advanced all-in-one unit out there. Whatever you get, make sure it's a Escort with GPS . Escort owns the patent on GPS lockout. What that means is that false alerts can be locked out based on location. So if you regularly pass false alerts, the detector learns them and will no alert to them. It's really an awesome thing to have. Too bad Escort has the patent on this...I'd much rather spend $150-200 on a GPS enabled detector...but that particular feature is only available from Escort. Other detectors have GPS functionality, but aren't allowed to lockout known false alerts. I've had my Max 2 for about 2 months now and it's FUCKING AWESOME. ETA: There are cheaper Escorts with GPS...but you're going to spend at least $300. Whatever you get, get it from RADAR ROY. You can get a 10% off discount code from him, and his price was much better than I could get from Amazon on my Max2. Within about 2 weeks, Amazon was about the same price. Maybe they got authorization to lower their MAP. |

Quoted: Love my Escort 9500ix If you are being serious and this is for a fast car, look into laser jammers. The Escort can detect them, but by the time you're hit you're fucked, so you need a jammer. I actually have laser turned off on mine. |
|
V1 is your answer. Anyone that says the arrows are a gimmick has never driven at high speeds on the highway with a radar detector. |

Quoted: When I am in the median running laser or radar I log into Waze to see if someone posted the speed trap there. I then remove the icon, saying that I am no longer there. |

I guess the downside to radar is that it's more easily detected. What about laser? Maybe less accurate or is it just harder to beat? Quoted:

How fast does your scooter go, OP?
Anyways, I have a V1 with the latest FW. It does quiet it down quite a bit, especially with the Traffic Monitor Filter active filtering out the false signals. To make it even more quiet and to give it the ability to learn and mute false signals, you'll need to run the YaV1 app (on Android only) connected to the V1. To do that, you'll need to also purchase the Bluetooth dongle. |

I have a V1 and need to send it to be updated. It's rendered nearly useless on the interstate with all these new cars with lane departure, blind spot monitoring, and 18 wheelers with radar that slows them down if a car cuts them off. The update is supposed to help with all that.
The WAZE APP is pretty awesome on the interstate. Having it and my V1 makes you nearly invisible to cops. |

Sorry charlie - it removes it from your screen only. Mark as 'not there' and then check your buddy's screen - you are still advertised All alerts, on Waze, stay up for 15 minutes, regardless. It stays there as long as people keep giving it a thumbs up or the 15 minutes has expired with no further input from drivers. |

From what I've read, you can also get the boot from Waze if you give too many false reports or thumbs down things that are actually there. When 99% of the users are saying yes and one user is continuously saying no, it kinda sticks out. |

I'm not sure if they will boot you... though, they have implemented a 'confidence level' attached to your account (ETA-Which you mentioned above). This basically nullifies input from a fibber. Waze is owned by Google - it is kind of tough to beat their algorithms |

Serious question here. How many of you with your $500+ radar detectors have tickets on your record and if you do, are they for greater than 15 over? Prior to getting my detector I had been nailed three times from anywhere between 5 and ~25 over (open desert road). Have not been pulled over once since I started using my 9500ix. |
|
Quoted: Around here a radar detector is all but useless. All the cops use laser and they know how to use them so it will not go off for laser till it is way to late. I keep hearing people say that. Yet, I have been all over this country and have only encountered laser a handful of times. I am talking hundreds of thousands of miles. |

I've got a few, yeah. Ive been issued one ticket for speeding since owning a RD. It was a bike (as in pedal) cop, hiding behind a bush in a residential area. Who nearly was ran over when he jumped in front of my car trying to get me to stop. Got me for ~45 in a 35. |

I got 2 tickets while using my 8500, both on blind hills with a curve. Has saved me more times than I can count. I tend to go well over out here. I can make a 260 mile tip in 3.5 hours on a good day. I hit about 7 small towns where it drops from 75mph speed limit to 35. |
