With basic boxing defense, anybody can slip/duck/block/parry every single punch thrown at him, especially by a slugger whose desperation makes him easy to read.
It's once you start hitting back that you open yourself up to getting hit, and Ali got tagged plenty. He was a great boxer, but lots of guys who never make it out of the amateurs could do this. They don't, because they're not narcissistic draft-dodging douchebags. Source: been boxing for 16 years this fall. It's a fun sport. |
