I have been posting this in AR/15 armory and by my own fault not putting it right . To wit is it legal to own a pre-ban 6550 AR/15 A2 Gov Mod with no sear block but with sear block pin? Edited to say help anyone,I have just a short window of time to buy this rifle ,do I or can I just buy a sear block from colt(if needed) to make this right if indeed it is wrong? Bob [:D] |

Quoted: I just sent my Colt A2 to KKF to have the sear block removed. you should be ok. Just make sure the weapon is Pre-ban. Colt only put the sear block in their because the are grabasstic. Thanks(sheet nobody yet gets the point) I know they can and did come without the blocks, and you can have them removed. But when removed there will be no holes(as such where the sear block would have been pinned) I think this is a white label colt as it has front pivot small screw and small rear pivot push pin! If so was made in 1989 or 90 probable of M16 recievers(semi) and would the sear block pin holes make it illegal to own? Anybody? Bob [:D] |

I know that I'm not being ignored as this is one of those questions that just never comes up,and if steyr says simply I honestly don't know well I wonder if anyone would. I was hopeing to catch Arrock as he might, but still want this rifle. So I might just pass as I can't find any sear blocks on any AR/15 sites(colts included). Mainly just wanted to know if the sear block pin in the hole would constitute not being able to have a auto sear pin(in the eyes of the JBT). Have a CCL and many other guns to lose over a minor(major) atf bull mince of verbage! I could even machine a small block then install, just wanted to know if even this was even neccesary. Thanks Bob [:D] |

My understanding is no – the hole is not a problem. While I have no first hand info, a year or two ago an apparently knowledgeable member posted that the sear block pin hole and the full-auto sear pin hole were not the same (which I assume is what you are asking). I’m also under the impression that most, if not all, sear block pin holes are just on the [s]left[/s] right side of the lower. Again, this is what I’ve read – not first hand experience. Hopefully I’m not repeating bad info. Sorry I couldn’t help more. Edited to say right side of reciever - I thought "right" but typed "left"!!! |

I have a colt with a sear-block, and I work with M16s and M4s on a rather regular basis. I've looked at this specifically, too. as for the legality, I'm pretty sure it's perfectly legal as the holes from removing the sear-block would not fit an auto-sear one bit. |

One of the reasons that Colt set the sear block up the way they did was so you couldn't put a full auto sear in. Not only is the hole much larger than the auto sear hole, it's positioned so that, if you cut the block out but leave the steel pin in, trying to drill the auto sear hole would have you trying to cut steel on one side, and aluminum on the other side of the same hole, not really doable. |

Thats cool but on this one and the AR/15 sporter II The sear blocks are not machined in ,got it they are loose! You just take them out! Bob [:D] |
