| I have an old desktop that is just taking up storage space. I'll probably just dump it at the local Good Will or donate to the local church yard sale. What needs to be done to insure my info is completely gone from the hard drive? Should I just yank the hard drive and introduce it to Mr. Hammer? |

That or physically destroy the hard drive. You need to destroy the platters (the things that look like CDs inside). I've done it with an oxyacetylene torch before, but I'm going to use a chop saw the next time I destroy a batch of them. |

I wasn't going to sell it. It's a 10 year old Dell. We have long upgraded to Macbooks since 2008. This obsolete computer went undetected in some boxes in storage. Just needs to be gone. Goodwill is not going to want it. Not sure if churches will either, esp with no drive/os. Be easier to find out when electronic recycling day/area is in your area. |
