Kindle unlimited is better for books
5/16/2015 11:28:04 AM EDT
[#7]
No brainer for us.  Totally changed how we shop.
The videos and kindle lending library are just gravy.

And they're adding new Prime perks semi-regularly.

I'd willingly pay more than the $99/year.

On the streaming side is just like Netflix with the exception a few items such as HBO shows

Even if Prime didn't have streaming it would still be worth it

(wish amazon would redo their streaming platform)

I use the two day shipping quite a bit

It's how I shop.  It's where I shop.  A first source for everything.  Half the time I decline the fast shipping for a $1 credit in the music store

Get both?

Wife is an avid reader and uses Unlimited.
Bought a new smoker just this morning, with Prime.

If I won the lottery and they paid me in Amazon credit I'd be okay with that.

The free shipping has been great on the 95 orders I've made in the past 6 months. definitely worth it.
5/16/2015 11:53:56 AM EDT
[#15]
Yes. Shipping alone during my free trial has probably added up to what I would spend buying it for the next 12 months, I'm sold.

Anything I can do to make less trips to Wal-Mart is a good thing!

Why make shopping lists, when you can have it ordered and on the way from amazon in the same amount of time?

This.
I haven't paid for a book since I signed up.

I buy way more goodies (non food items) from Amazon because of the free shipping, than going to department store.

Plus, it's got a ton of free movies to watch. Sort of like a cheap version of cable tv.
5/16/2015 11:57:30 AM EDT
[#19]
Omg, off the charts worth it.

You should see my Amazon purchase history.  Before prime, I had 3 orders per year.

Since joining many years ago, I have like 40 purchases each year, usually over $2000.

I make up the yearly cost with the free shipping, and the Prime video is pretty nice as well.

Absolutely.  Money WELL spent!

After you guys get Amazon Prime tell her about the Top 100 Free Kindle Books list.

Prime is some of the best money I spend every year.
5/16/2015 12:22:26 PM EDT
[#25]
It's a bit if a scam but you're kinda screwed without it.

Prices for two day shipping are higher than without.  Wonder why..

Prime shipping isn't as reliable as it used to be.  I'm having a number of packages reach me 3 business days later now.  And prime shipping only applies to certain items distributed by Amazon, not the many third party retailers selling through Amazon.

I don't care about the streaming content, there's so much on demand and other services it takes me an hour to find anything to watch(most of it is shit movies/tv)

Very much so.

I now do most of my shopping on Amazon.  Buy it, free two day shipping on most stuff with
Prime.  Instant video like Netflix....Very much worth it IMO.

What method do they use for the 2 day shipping?

If you join as an  Amazon Student you will get a six month trial which then gets upgraded to Amazon Prime at 50% off. You will need an .edu email account for it to work.

Hell yes. The big brown truck has a path worn in my driveway.
5/16/2015 12:32:09 PM EDT
[#31]
Yes. But it depends on how much you buy from them.

I have items arriving at my doorstep about 4 out of 6 days. I have found that they are cheaper, there are no taxes, and deliver quickly. I am able to find all kinds of stuff without having to venture out of my mom's basement.

I use the hell out of prime.  Seems I have something arriving at least twice a week.

This.  Once you get in the groove of thinking a day or two ahead of time you'll never go to the store again.

Not entirely true.
They started charging taxes on most of the prime items now.

GF uses it mostly for instant video, I use it for all the other perks.

It's well worth it.

more so if you have a Kindle or the excellent Fire TV.

The only time I go to a store is if I need groceries or gas. Everything else is delivered by Amazon. I save at least $100 in gas each year by not running all over town trying to find my items.

1000% yes.  Yes yes yes.
5/16/2015 1:08:44 PM EDT
[#44]
Absolutely.

Snag a Fire stick when you sign up.

Between the free Books, and gazillion free movies, and free shipping, it's a no brainer, and the subscription pays for itself in like the first 4-5 orders of stuff.

good lord yes.

I like Prime Music.

I like the automatic photo uploads.

I love the free 2-day shipping.  You will now forever be pissed when ordered items take more than 2 days to arrive.

If you are so inclined, and spend a lot of time in your car or elsewhere, I really recommend audible.com for audible books.  I've listened to as many books in the past year, as I have read in all my life.  (I used to read a lot before work/job/family/etc....)  It really is refreshing to be "reading" books again.
