My kid just tried to pick up my 3 month old puppy (staffordshier terrier?) by the hind legs. I didn't see it. From what I can gather after 10 minutes of lying was that she was laying down and he tried to pick her up by the back legs.

I was starting dinner and I hear her start yelping... I run around the corner and she is trying to get in her bed limping and yelping.

I grab her and calm her down. Then put her down and have her walk to me. She can't. Back left leg is drawn up and can't bare weight.

After about 10 minutes if holding her and comforting her she can place MINIMAL weight on it and falls down at times. I did some ROM with out yelps. No obvious deformities. After another 10 minutes she limps heavily into her crate to chew a pizzle stick. Seems calm. Tried to hold her with some ice but she wasn't into it.

Strain, sprain, something else.

Son is in time out for the rest of the night.

I'm so fucking pissed.

ETA: she is allowing me to assess it. Shows no pain.

20 more minutes. She is placing more weight. Still limping but able to walk.

See how it is tomorrow, but be aware, bully dogs are tough as nails.  They're bred for that.  She could still very well be injured, and will allow you to assess it and not show pain like another dog would.

I know, that's what worries me.

Been about an hour. She is back to playing. Minimal limping, running around but still minimal limping but I'm trying to keep her from walking too much right now. Got laying on the couch.

She has a previously scheduled vet appt on Thursday already.

Bribe with treats....Several of my dogs have acted like their foot/leg was broken after I accidentally tripped over or stepped on them, but stopped the limping and injured dog act the second they heard the treat jar open. If food doesn't make the pup forget the injury, keep an eye on here for a couple days. It doesn't sound like anything is broken or torn from what you have said...she is probably just sore and a bit scared.

I am sure he hurt her. This dog almost got killed by our other dog when she got bit on the head/neck...

The other dog got taken back to the pound (another rescue). This poor dog has had a rough life in her 3 months on earth. Trying to give her a great loving life and home...

She actually seems ok before bed here. Will keep an eye on her and see if she is limping tomorrow and she does have the vet appt on thurs anyway...

Like we can't win

My Staffy was diagnosed at 10 months with arthritis, bone spurs, heart murmur, and he has an awesome under bite.
He just got up one day from laying in the sun and was walking like an old man. X-rays confirmed the poor guy is up for a lifetime of being sore.
Dumb as shit and one of the best "dog" dogs I have had. Will lay out in the yard at 2 am like a retard. Insists on laying at your feet and is a velcro dog. You taking a shit? He is watching...
Hope your pooch just overextended itself but if you notice a pattern have her checked out. These dogs are over bred by shitty backyard breeders.

Most likely a cranial cruciate ligament tear. It's analogous to an ACL tear in humans. Smaller breed dogs tend to fair better with them and usually only show pain after acute injury then appear normal. It is my advice to go to a veterinarian as this will not heal on its own. Even though the dog may not appear painful the joint is unstable. This instability will lead to severe arthritis as the dog ages and it WILL be painful and will be irreversible.
N9w having said that spank the everlasting shit out of your child. It injured the dog and then more importantly LIED to you. If I did that my dad would have whipped my ass raw. He did many times before. I still love him and ended up a doctor spanking ain't so bad.

The boy has been punished.

She has an appt tomorrow. We'll ask the doc.

Explain to the DVM what you told us and ask for a comprehensive orthopedic examination. This will most likely require sedation and exams to fully evaluate the joints. Best of luck to you and your family.

What I'm thinking with how fast and recovered but she was seriously yelping. Freaked me out.

Will certainly follow up with the vet though.
