I am flipping thru the channels on the boob tube while surfing arfcom, and look over to see this woman pull a bullet from a tire. She say something about "death talons", and how they haven't been made in years. Then some guy says "hardcore", they must have been stockpiling them. I did not catch it all, but it is that CSI program. Did anybody else see this crap? |

Obviously a blatant attempt to capture the name hype of the Wichester "Black Talons", yet they where unable to sequester the balls to use the real name(fear of possible law suit?,I doubt). This tactic is by no means new in hollywood and TV land. Some of the recent(2years to present) examples I remember are: LAW&ORDER-guy goes postal on a feminist rally. He uses a Comm-Bloc Skorpian(SP?) machine pistol with the magazine removed. When tring to locate the weapon the police LT tells them to look for an Ingram or a "Raulph" because,"only those guns can do that damage." They made up the gun company "Raulph Arms". WEST WING-The admin. is trying to ban "Rudger 14's" and "Mini-9's". Somehow,in their little socialist world AR-15's and the likes were illegal and these were the only two weapons prevented society from advancing. NOTE: Sheen and company put a nice spin on the '94 bill, stated that it banned thirty round magazines and allowed twenty rounders and below to be manufactured. It's funny, I wonder if ten was too low of a number to grab the audience? |

And use those shitty nine millimeters to kill two fully armored SWAT cops with M4 carbines no less... Now I know why the cast of the original Las Vegas CSI hate the copycat so badly-they just suck in their research and execution. Its just not a quality production. |

It's TV Land for Chrissake! Yes, they have a stupid political agenda...and yes they avoided the real name to steer clear of potential lawsuits...but the babes are HOT! I like the cute blond criminologist. And yes...I thought the shootout was way stupid too. (Clean your HK!) < |

| I am sure they had to avoid the real name for some Copyright type of thing. Of course I noticed it right off. When they were letting the woman with the baby in the car know that she was targeted rather than an innocent bystander they determined the Death Talon came from across the way from inside a building where the Cocain tiles were. He shot it through a peep hole in the building must have been 100yds or so, through the back window, through the front seat through her shoulder, and lodged into the steering column after all that it had only expanded to maybe 40 cal. Some death talon, no wonder they stopped selling them cause they suck. |

I have a bunch of Black Talon that I've held on to over the years. 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 Magnum, even .308 Winchester. My question is: Is this stuff REALLY as good as everyone (including me) thought it was, or is there now similarly effective ammo out there? I'm afraid I know my guns far better than I know ammo. Any enlightening information would be appreciated. |
| The Black Talons were withdrawn due to bad press. They were replaced by even nastie rnumbers the media is unaware of. These are known as XTP's (extended terminal penetrators). The BT's expanded six segments. The XTP's expand in eight segments. Shhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Don't want DUmbo picking up on this. |
| Still exists as the Winchester Ranger SXT, a "Law Enforcement Only" (by Winchester's choice, not law) load. I have fired many thousands of rounds of it and have 37 rounds of it on my person as I type this. Works fine on deer and dogs. Heard it performs pretty well on people, too. |
| The Black Talon design was state of the art at the time, but has since been utterly outclassed. Speer Gold Dot bullets are certainly as good or better as are the Hornady XTP (xtreme terminal performance). Federal has some new bullets out there with a FMJ bullet with internal perforations that casue it to expand beautifully without losing any mass. Because there is no hollow point to get clogged with clothing, drywall, etc. expansion is MUCH more certain than with hollowpoints. I need to see more info on them before I switch from my current protection load (Federal Hydrashoks). I also have a pile of Black Talons in .45 ACP. Nothing wrong with them, but I'm not too enthusiastic about carrying them since the PR associated with them puts you at an automatic disadvantage if you should need them and end up in court. I'd rather go with a similarly or more effective round with a less nasty image. |

BTW, I don't watch CSI Miami unless there is nothing else on, it is a pale imitation of CSI. I watch Miracles instead. It's seriously freaky, my wife won't watch it. The premise is that Evil with a capital E is active in the world and the incidence of honest to God miracles is increasing along with the incidence of other paranormal, non-divine occurances. The line that sticks with me is: "The Dark is it's own thing." and "It wants....everything." Angus MacFadyen, the actor who played Robert the Bruce in Braveheart plays the leader of the investigatory team. |

The bullets look just like the marketing pictures |
