Anyone used it?  Heard of it?  Loved it?  Hated it?

My employer is revoking our company provided smart phone.  I'm not one to spend a bunch of money on some B.S. cell phone bill.  On the other hand I've gotten rather accustomed to having one over the last four years or so.  I'd like to maintain this level of comfort.  Republic requires you buy one of their phones, and it works primarily over wifi but uses sprint networks at a backup.  You can get up to 5gb over 4glte before they throttle back the unlimited data.  $40/mo for the top tier plan.

Clark Howard speaks highly of them.  I'd not even heard the name before today but now am seriously considering them over paying the insane prices and/or commitment of the major network.  Of course if I buy Republic's phone then I'm pretty much committed there too, but I figure its buy once, cry once instead of getting another $100+ bill every month from Verizon.

Been on it since Beta. Very few complaints. Chief complaint is Sprint service is poor.

No MMS on my older phone, have to use email for pictures. I think the newer ones have it though.

Call quality on wifi is like a hard line. Seriously good audio quality.

ETA: I use the Republic+3G plan.

A guy I used to work with had them. For the most part, he's been happy with them. The only issue he had, that I know of is when he got sent a picture in a text, it would get stuck and he wouldn't receive any more texts from that person until he deleted the string of texts that contained the picture.  I don't know if it was a fluke or if he is still having the problem.  I do know that he had a hard time getting a hold of customer service.  They were cheap though!

Been in it since beta as well, no complaints.

My area has been good for Sprint, so no issues.

They also just started refunding cash for any unused data.

Edit:  On the Moto X I can send pics.

I got rid of data and love paying $13/month after taxes per line.  Frankly it was easy to get used to only having data on wifi.

$23/month

That is my monthly bill for unlimited text/cell, and wifi only data for 2 smartphones.  $11.50 per phone!  (These phones cost $100 each upfront)

Now for the bad, the cell reception isn't as clear and reliable as Verizon.  But for me, I'm not on the phone but maybe a few times per week.  Texting is about all I do, and then use home wifi.

Go with Straight talk and get real service. Just buy a phone and get it hook up. pay 45 plus whatever sales tax in your area for 3 gb of LTE or hook up to wireless at home .

Bought my wife one during the beta testing phase. Really happy with it. Upgraded to a new phone this year and porting the number over was cake too. As some have said the Sprint coverage is spotty sometimes. Not a phone for out in the sticks. We travel from Florida to Ohio every year and coverage is good until we get in the backwoods of Ohio. And as others mentioned, customer service is very thin. BUT IT'S A $25/MONTH SERVICE! Want someone to walk you through stuff you're going to pay more. And you have to buy one of Republic's phones. Period. We have wireless high speed in our home and the hand off is great. We have Comcast and have it set up to auto connect to any of their hot spots we're around and that works fairly well. (The phone works better than they do)

If you have more than one smartphone number in the house, it's probably not as good a deal as you'd think.  AT&T offers a better deal with more options for 2 or more lines.

But if you're single it's a great deal.

Ting wireless is another option to consider. They have a calculator on their site to estimate your savings with them versus your current provider.

Yes, Ting Wireless for me.  Works great and the plans are cheap.

How is the Moto X overall for you? Gen 1 or 2? Battery life and loud speakers for work areas are my biggest things. I'm going to buy a new phone here shortly, and have been getting mixed (subjective) answers on those qualities on the phones.

So far so good on the moto x1.  Glad I waited a bit because they did exactly as I expected.  Got a $50 coupon towards another phone and used it on a moto x2.

If you pick your phone wisely you can get on the Verizon network with Straight Talk - that is worth the premium if you live in an area forsaken by Sprint (a pox on them for screwing me over royal multiple times the last time I was stupid enough to have a contract).

Also, last I was on their site, it looks like you will get 4g now if you have a compatible phone (though that is likely only on the Sprint network).
