mother-n-law brought 3 maines home from work the other nite.  they were $5 each.  they were dead though.  she put them in the freezer.

are they still safe to eat?  they don't have that spoiled/cooked orange color.  they smell ok to me.

how long  should i boil them?
what and how much should i put in the water?

thanks,
Stone

You can get Maine Lobsters in HI? Boy is it a small world!

If they are dead, throw them away. They go bad very quickly after death if they are still in the shell. That's why you never see them frozen in the shell. Don't take the chance.

The only way I know to prepare lobsta is to cook them while they are alive....or cut them in half while alive, immediately pull out the meat and freeze it.

I agree with the others, I don't think I've ever seen lobster sold that way, its a bad idea. If lobster is sold dead it is always precooked.

thanks guys, that's what i was thinking.

i'm originally a florida boy and i know we never used to eat dead blue crabs either.  i remember people saying something about them poisoning their bodies or something when they die.

even when i used to catch spiny lobsters here i would pull their tales off while they were still alive and then freeze them.
