| Anybody here wear/carry a neck knife? How do you like it? |
|
I have worn a neck knife on and off for years. I make Kydex sheaths and dabble in knifemaking, so for me it is an important part of my arsenal. The trick is to find one that is small enough to be effective for self defense, but also light enough so that you hardly notice that it is around your neck. The single most important thing to remember, is to NEVER tie the 550 paracord (lanyard) in a knot and then hang it around your neck. If someone grabs it from behind, you just might lose your life, and at the very least, you will get choked out. The proper way to use the paracord it to figure out where you want the knife to ride and then fuse the 2 end of the cord together with a lighter or small torch. If enough pressure is applied to the fused point it will break apart, and not allow you to be choked. Now mind you, it will take a great deal of force to break the fused ends apart, but at least you will not die from the results. |

OMG! I've never given that ANY thought! I have a background in Brazilian Juijitsu which is VERY focused on chokes. Duh, here I am with "choke-bait" dangling from my neck! I have two neck knives though. My first on is a Gerber Clip Lock and my second and favorite is my CRKT Polkowski/Kasper Companion. The Companion comes with a belt/waistband sheath and a neck sheath. The neck sheath came with a bead-chain for hanging around your neck. I thought this was "flimsy" so's I got me some PARACORD! mental not to self-find some bead-chain! |
