Is it a requirement to have the caliber stamped on the barrel? Sure it should have it from a safety standpoint, but is it a legal requirement? Yes. It needs to be stamped or engraved on the barrel, frame, or reciever. http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=96c67b804d163b6825c3b1e230c0e7a4&mc=true&node=se27.3.478_192&rgn=div8 |

I would have too. You figure they would have checked the legality of it before they brought the damn thing to SHOT show and had it confiscated. |

& FBHO I don't know how Taurus could have overlooked this simple requirement. Notwithstanding AFT rules, there's a liability factor I'd consider as the main reason why I'd want to stamp a barrel with its caliber. Quoted:

Title II firearms are illegal to import unless being sold to the government. Handgun over .50 caliber, ATF probably classified it as an AOW. |

So let me get this straight.... If it's made in the USA you don't have to stamp the barrel. BUT if it's made elsewhere and then imported into the USA then the barrel has to be stamped? Stupid gun laws are stupid!
If it is made in the USA you have to stamp or engrave the caliber. If it is made in the USA, you also have stamp or engrave city and state of manufactuer. The Curve is made in Miami. |

Stupid gun laws are stupid! No. Regardless of where it's made you have to have manufacturer, city, state, model number/name, serial number, and caliber marked on the firearm. The serial number must be on the receiver. Everything else can be on the receiver, frame, slide, or barrel. If the firearm is imported it must have the importer's name, city, and state rather than the manufacturers. Everything else is the same. In most cases the importers will reuse the original manufacturer's markings (as long as they meet the legal requirements for the US) and then add their info. |

Stamp everything: Caliber Multi. They sort of did with my Astra 400. As long as it is either a 9mm or a .38 caliber, it will work just fine, according to the stamp. Of course, a .38 Special won't enter the chamber, and a .38 Super or a 9x23mm Winchester would most likely ka-boom on firing. But, the way many people think today, it should fire any cartridge which is desiginated either .38 or 9mm. To be fair, some people thought the same half a century ago. |

City and state are only for domestic firearm manufacturers I belive. Maybe the importer has to put their city and state. |

Gotcha, the article made it seem like the barrel had to be stamped. After reading it again it sounds like the Curve didn't have the caliber marking ANYWHERE on it. I haven't seen one in the wild to check. |

Make them in the US so they could sell them here and it might be profitable. If nothing else it'd be worth it to see people's heads explode when it was released.

Quoted: That's a stupid law to protect stupid people. I think they should revoke it. Since stupid people have the right to buy guns they have to have stupid laws to protect them. On the flip side maybe there should be a law that stupid people shouldn't buy guns then we wouldn't stupid laws to protect the stupid. |
