Has anyone done it? I want to go to Bora Bora...

My wife put all of her company expenses, and only her company expenses, on a private credit card to make expense reports easier.  She accumulated enough points that we flew across the country for free.  That's as close as I can get.

I wouldn’t call it churning but I’ve gone on a few trips with free airfare from CC points on my Amex & Chase Southwest Visa.

I hope the author realizes that the IRS considers that "free" stuff and "airline miles" as taxable income...I didn't make the rules, so if you gotta flame then flame the IRS.

A friend of mine puts ALL of the expenses for his business on his Amex, and pays them off at the end of the month.  His pay-per-click, facebook, and other advertising run pretty high.  They have a hard time taking enough vacations to use the points, they get enough that the entire family can fly wherever they want more than once per month.  My day job does it too, the corporate amex pays for EVERYTHING, for all of the points.  Usually the big-wigs take trips and what-not, but sometimes they just tell people "Hey, you're doing a great job, want some plane tickets to wherever you want?"

I run everything I can (personal, not business) through my Cabela's Visa card. At the very least it pays for my competition ammo.

I travel some for work, and I pay, then they reimburse.  I could use a company credit card, but using mine gives me some cash back for toys.

I am saving up air and hotel points for a free week in Bora Bora.  I will reach this goal someday.

No, but my wife did just get an NFL card from Barclays that's going to give us what amounts to a $100 bill credit for spending $500 in the first 90 days. I may use that to fund a desktop computer build since my laptop is literally falling apart.

ETA - I run across this often though, business owners often using Amex, etc. to run expenses through and paying it off. Doesn't take much to get to a million points when you're running hundreds of thousands of dollars through an account on a monthly basis.

My wife does it all the time for frequent flier miles.
I have no clue how many cards I have in my name,
But we haven't paid to fly, anywhere, for the past 15 years, except for a minor charge of 11 or 12 bucks each.

I think this would be an excellent idea

My wife and I accumulated enough points with my business onAmex after two years to fly both of us to New Zealand for three weeks to get married.

Then, six years later, companion tickets to South Africa twice, and Australia.

Yes. I rotate my Citibank AA cards, as the new offers come around. From new card applications alone, I received 200k in AA miles in the last year. I use these cards for all business and personal purchases.

The year before I did the AirTran offer, which gave me 2 business class tickets. The way it worked out, I was able to use these to buy 4 round trip tickets instead. I closed the account now. Wait 1 year and apply for the Southwest card (they bought AirTran and the card was going to be automatically switched).

Those that worry about credit score, Citi gives it to you for free and mine shows as 841.

I travel for work quite a bit and split everything between my Marriott card and BofA travel card.

Went to Switzerland and Nice for our honeymoon.

Going to Paris and Iceland this summer.

IMO playing the points game is best for travel rewards.

Business card bought me a ticket to Munich, so I can't complain

Hmm I guess I need to look into a good rewards card. My wife has been bugging me about doing this but I can't justify having a card for this purpose. On the other hand I hate vacationing simply because of the travel expenses

Show her the rewards aspect. Look at the program too. Some of the Venture cards say 35k free miles (or whatever). 35k equals $350. That is nothing. My upcoming family trip to Belize was 18k per person, roundtrip. Considering the airfare price was $1289, the actual airline reward is a much better deal. Never mind my first class ticket prices to London. The 100k sign up bonus covered the trip for 2 of us, but the card cost $350. The card includes access to the airline lounge. The mileage bonus made it easily worth it and the family likes the access to the lounges (food, showers, etc.).

Southwest has good sign up bonuses too. Sign up, use the rewards, cancel the card. You have to wait a year before applying again

About 20 years ago I accumulated enough reward miles to get a round trip airline ticket anywhere in the continental US.  It was really nice that year taking my vacation and not having to pay anything for the round trip airline tickets.

Taken multiple flights to Asia. First class. With the wife. Didn't pay for flights or hotels. It works.

My brother does it as a hobby.  He makes just over $8K a year.  Credit card freebies, bank account start up freebies, frequent flyer points, etc.  Sometimes they give him more cash when he does a cancellation.  He uses Excel to keep track of it.

Yeah, he has no other hobbies to take up that much time.  No way I could do it and keep it straight.

There was a way to order coins on a credit card from the US mint to show required activity to get your cash back or miles, and all you had to do was sell the coins back to the bank.  I think they shut this down.

US mint has been dead a long time. Walking in to the bank with 20lbs of coins gets old, but it was a no fee way to rack up spend.

My Brother in Law has a little over 3 million airmiles on his Delta card.  No one in the family pays full price for airline tickets.
