| Anyone have one? Looking to get a artisan model. We have been making homemade candy like peanut butter balls, coconut balls, etc and mixing by hand is a pain in the ass. Thoughts? |

Bigger isn't always better. I prefer the tilt design over the bowl lift design. We have both. The bowl lift model fits tight against the backsplash, and clears the overhead cabinets, allowing more area for prep (you can never have enough room in a kitchen). Grandmas mixer was the best for a reason |

bowl lift the tilting models have plastic cogs in the gear train, least they did a few years ago, maybe all of hem are all metal now. The bigger hte better. Over capacity = longevity. I guess I can't speak to the newer tilting ones, but my mom has one still running like a champ from the 70s. Ours is much newer, but the lifting, not tilting ones, and they just simply aren't as convenient. I really wish we had the tilting model, but not enough to try and sell ours to buy a new one. |

Get one with the highest watts and one that will hold the biggest bowl. If you plan to use it as a grain mill you'll thank yourself. There are attachments for all kinds of stuff; pasta, grain mill, sausage making, meat grinding to name a few. Also it's just a great mixer.
I love mine. |

overpriced. Do look into the gears. My wife wanted to start making bread and some of them can not kneed because of cheep plastic gears stripping. Likewise the design is too tall for some kitchen counters and most cabinets. I think Bostch has a mixer with good reviews, ours is a electrolux fwiw the kitchen aid still gets used - just not for tough jobs. |

I got my mother one back in the early 90's as a xmas gift and she used it prob 6 days a week until 2010 or so ( she loves cooking and baking and did cadering for the longest time. mostely desserts). around 2010 she stopped using it as much but it still got used prob 3 times a week or so. that was a 4.5 qt .. in 2012 i got her a new 5qt model because her old one had been used hard for years. She still loves it. I have owned a 5qt since 2004 or so and its the best thing to have in the kitchen.
Point: They work great and last forever |

Old ones are great. New ones are OK but be aware that the gear head is packed with grease and over time that grease works its way down and will drip in your mixing bowl at the worst possible time. There is a shallow chrome ring around the base of the head that collects the grease until it fills up. Needed this info! thanks! |

My mother got my wife one for her bridal shower. My wife insisted on using a hand mixer for years after that, and it sat in its box unused. Then our hand mixer broke and she was forced to use the Kitchenaid. Now she loves the damn thing and doesn't know how she ever lived without it. |

One of the best purchases I ever made for the wife. Grinder attachment turns venison into deer burgers with amazing speed, too. Get one, you won't be disappointed. Wife loves hers. We work out that grinder attachment. I run about 3 deer a year through the grinder attachment. Sausage stuffer attachment is nice too. |
