Looking to get some new windows in my house. Talked to Window world today and I am going to get an estimate from them. Are there an other brands that I should be looking at that are better than them. Not saying that they are the best just looking at options. Started to look at Marvin windows online but I feel that I am getting a little over whelmed by the whole what windows are good and which are bad thing.

I wouldn't get too caught up on brands.  You will hear all kinds of opinions.  Just make sure they are constructed well to today's standards and have a good warranty.  I have seen cheap windows function well for years and expensive ones fail quickly.

I am a contractor and like Simonton windows.  Good quality and lifetime warranty on them if they fog up.  Just call the dealer with the info on the sticker and new sash will show up within two weeks.

Beyond that, the installation is as important as a quality window.  I have seen pricey windows installed wrong that leaked and we're drafty as hell.  I have seen relatively cheap windows that were installed well and just simply worked.  On that note, I would be leary of the window world type companies.  They can be cheaper because they make their own windows and cut out the middle man, but their install crews may be suspect.  Better to pay a little more to a recommended local contractor and have that peace of mind.

I had a local contractor build a garage/workshop at the house and all the windows have fogged up, leaked and generally gone shitty. Had them all pulled and reset/resealed but they are still foggy. Of course this was after the five year warranty. I didn't request cheap stuff in the beginning either, especially since some were custom sizes.

Fast forward a few more years and I finally dove in to get all the windows on the house changed out. On referral from a friend we went with Royal Windows for a bid on 9 windows. Their window sample looked good to me and the price seemed fair. Definitely a lot nicer looking unit than what the local contractor put in my garage.  Pretty quick turnaround from measuring to install, about two weeks. They originally quoted 4-6 weeks. Installation went quick and the finished product looks just fine. Installers weren't quite as tidy throughout the install as I would have liked them to have been but considering they were tearing out windows in brick I guess it could have been worse. No damage to anything around the windows, everything finished up with just a bead of caulk inside and out.  House is a hell of a lot quieter now since the 1981 single pane aluminum windows are gone. Can't make any comments on electricity costs dropping yet, but summer is on the way. Need to replace some doors, attic insulation and the a/c unit is sitting at 21 years old right now. The joys of home ownership...

Less than 4 months in, but so far I'm pleased.
