I posted this on the gear sub forum, but I figured it would get more traffic here. I need some new shoes for my job working at a shop where I'm on my feet all day. I've heard good things about Salomons. And was thinking of getting some black xa Pro mid GTXs or maybe another model. I'd likely use them for hiking as well.
New balance is 10.5. |

I bought my first pair, the Salomon XA Pro 3D Mid GTX, in June 2012. They were one of the shoes I would wear most often except in the summer when it was real hot. I finally got a new pair a couple of weeks ago, as my first pair developed a crack/tear on the outside by the big toe. The first pair has been relegated to grass cutting shoes.
I wear them all day, but I'm not on my feet all day. The times that I have been on my feet all day in them they were comfortable. |
| I tried a pair of their boots and even ordered a half size large after reading that they tend to run on the small/narrow. They were still too narrow and I've never had to wear a wide shoe/boot before. YMMV, I might just have borderline wide feet or had a bad pair. |
| Most of my other shoes are 11.5. I had a salomon boot in 11.5 (the $150 model, goretex), that I had issues with (broken lacing stud and one boot leaked like a sieve, even in wet grass. Fortunately salomon replaced them under waranty, and sice the 11.5 were kind of tight, I went up to a 12. So long story short, go up at least a half size. |

Truth. They are on the narrow/small side. I'd find an REI or similar and try them.
