I posted this on the gear sub forum, but I figured it would get more traffic here.

I need some new shoes for my job working at a shop where I'm on my feet all day. I've heard good things about Salomons. And was thinking of getting some black xa Pro mid GTXs or maybe another model. I'd likely use them for hiking as well.

I wear 10.5 oakley lsa's. And 10.5 nikes are snug but fine. Most nikes I wear are 11s.

New balance is 10.5.

How does Salomon's sizing run?

Also any other recommendations would be nice. They have to be black but don't necessarily have to be a boot.

Comfort is what I'm looking for mostly.

Pretty much true to size. From their trail running shoe to boots, I've always had the same size as other shoes.

Maybe just a little small.  My Speedcross 3's are small but my XA3D Ultras are perfect.  I wear a 12 B and the normal widths fit fine in a lace up shoe.

How would you guys say comfort is for an all day boot/shoe? I'm looking at the xa pro mid gtx.

I bought my first pair, the Salomon XA Pro 3D Mid GTX, in June 2012.  They were one of the shoes I would wear most often except in the summer when it was real hot.  I finally got a new pair a couple of weeks ago, as my first pair developed a crack/tear on the outside by the big toe.  The first pair has been relegated to grass cutting shoes.

I wear them all day, but I'm not on my feet all day.  The times that I have been on my feet all day in them they were comfortable.

I have a pair of Saloman boots and trail running shoes in 13, 4 pairs of  Merrills in 12.5.

I tried a pair of their boots and even ordered a half size large after reading that they tend to run on the small/narrow. They were still too narrow and I've never had to wear a wide shoe/boot before. YMMV, I might just have borderline wide feet or had a bad pair.

I have boots that are true to size and trail shoes that are half a size bigger. The trail shoes are the aero something. Very lightweight and I think they are supposed to be a little more snug...

True to size.  I'm 11.5 in everything but Nike. Nike is 12 for me.  I'm 11.5 in Salomon.

I'm wearing a pair right now. They are very comfortable. I spent 10 hours last Thursday and Friday standing on concrete all day, and my feet felt fine.

They seem  to be a little on the small side for me and they are NOT as comfortable as other brands I've worn.

Most of my other shoes are 11.5.  I had a salomon boot in 11.5 (the $150 model, goretex), that I had issues with (broken lacing stud and one boot leaked like a sieve, even in wet grass.  Fortunately salomon replaced them under waranty, and sice the 11.5 were kind of tight, I went up to a 12.  So long story short, go up at least a half size.

On MY feet they are the very best ever,  YMMV but they are a real good gamble!

No break in out the box, worn all day and feet are GTG so far (about a month so far) - Salomon Quest 4D II GTX...

Bought after a pair of Sawtooths were cut by a sharpish rock. Not knocking Merrells at all but decided to change it up.

ETA: Worn almost daily in rough terrain, btw...

Truth.  They are on the narrow/small side.  I'd find an REI or similar and try them.

I have to go up a full size in Salomons, as they are a bit narrow.  My Speedcross 3's are perfect at 13's, I wear 12 wides's in everything else.  I love my Speedcross, comfortable for all day wear.
