Our clinic is in the middle of a big, steel building and our radio reception is sketchy at best. I have a 100 megabit fiber connection to the internet, so I want to stream some Pandora/iHeartRadio/rdio, etc. However, my small stereo system sits high on a bookshelf, near the drop ceiling. I can drop an Ethernet cable down from the ceiling. I realize I could run some speaker wires from a computer to the stereo. But, I'd like to plug the Ethernet directly into some small device that I can then connect to the stereo. The device would need to be able to tune in the various sources mentioned above.

Does anyone have some suggestions about such a device? I want to avoid having to use a computer to stream.

I know you said you would prefer no pc. But I would just get some cheap little laptop you can set out of the  way, and get some wireless speakers.

Sorry wasn't much help.

Raspberry Pi plus Squeezeplug. It will take some setup but it's easy to follow the directions. It's basically a mini computer board, but it's powered by a cell phone adapter so not going to be using much. Also has ethernet. and it's $35.

Squeezeplug

Raspberry Pi 2

I like the Raspberry PI idea. I haven't played with Squeezeplug yet. How do I go about changing the stations/channels on Squeezeplug? Is there a Web front end, so I could log in from a machine on the LAN to control the music?

I'll read on this some more when I get home from work. Internet access is somewhat limited at work.

Yeah the Raspberry Pi just runs headless and you control it via the web or a smartphone app.
