I'd like to get a GoPro, but I don't want to spend a lot for it. I see the basic model on Amazon for $129.99. Click What are the pros and cons on this model? Limitations? Capabilities? I'm looking to possibly use it on a canoe trip, but am willing to jettison the idea if it's not a very useful item. |

What's the battery life? How's the audio? I'm assuming that it works well in the sun - correct? How does it recharge? Quoted:

I still run my HeroHD (the cheap one that they still sell) along with my 4. It's still a good camera. What's the battery life? How's the audio? I'm assuming that it works well in the sun - correct? How does it recharge? Battery life is in the hours range. Audio is pretty good with the correct back piece (which is included). Sun yes, they were designed for outdoorsy stuff. You can either recharge the battery in the camera through a USB cable or through a dedicated charger. Spare batteries are pretty cheap too. |
| For the money that seems like a decent deal. The specs are about as good at my older Hero 2 but in a smaller package. The only thing that jumps out at me is there is only one field of view (Ultra Wide) and its missing some of the higher frame rate modes that the Hero 3 and 4 have. |

I'm probably not smart enough to use those features anyway. |
| i have a 4 silver now and had a 2 before that! i guess it really depends on what you plan on getting out of it. The 4 takes awesome photos and i actually use it more for pictures than video. The 2 on the other hand i took a lot a videos with before it met its untimely death at the bottom of a rock quarry after i jumped off. The 4 is nice because it can be controlled using your cell phone and it has a back screen so you know exactly what you are filming or taking a photo of! |

For the money it's a decent camera, my first GoPro was a Silver Hero 3. I think it was $200 when I bought it, and I'm glad I bought that one instead of the cheaper one. It has a lot more features and is pretty durable. They have made their video editing software a bit more user friendly as well, so don't forget to go download that if you buy one. |

My wife got me a Pyle Expo a couple months ago and I like it. http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PSCHD90SL-Hi-Res-Action-Camera/dp/B00IVQ70CQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1426353722&sr=8-2&keywords=pyle+expo
It uses all the mounts that a gopro uses, films in 1080, can take stills, comes with a waterproof case and a handful of mounts. I mounted it on a set of earmuffs for USPSA matches and it has worked well for me. It also has an app you can download for your phone which allows you to remote control and view it, and download it directly to your phone wirelessly. It's nice when you're trying to adjust it when it's on your head or if someone wants to film a stage and get the video from you. I've never had or used a gopro but for what I need, this fits the bit nicely and is a lot less expensive than a gopro. |
