I have a Colt Combat Commander in 9MM. Has anyone here ever used 38 super magazines in this type of gun. I used one today in the 9MM and it worked great! A guy I was with told me the Colt 9MM mag and the 38 Super mag are the same. Does anyone know if this is true? And if it is does anyone have a good source for mags. Thanks.

I think the 9mm has a spacer in the back of the mag. I haven't seen one, omly pics.

There's lots of 9mm 1911 mags available. Check out the ads in Shotgun News.

I have a SA 1911A1 Govt in 9mm, it gets lots of looks at the range.  >gg<

No offence but a 9mm 1911 is like a full size pick up truck with a 4cylinder.

I have two commanders, a lightweight in 9mm and one steel frame in 38 Super.

The mags are not the same,  the 9mm has a spacer in the back.

38 Super mags will work in the 9mm, but only with longer heavier bullets.  Rounds will do nosedives in the mag with lightweight short loads.

Last gunshow here had 9mm mags for 10$,  They are quite common.

No offense to 9mm fans but a Colt Combat Commander in 9mm just begs the question "Why?". I love the 1911 design. I love the .45 ACP. The two were made for each other. I thought the whole point behind the modern 9mm pistols was increased firepower. Oops, I guess this may look like a lame attempt to hijack. Ignore my comments.

I return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

For the same reason we buy N-frame Smiths in .357mag: just because. This is not to say we'd abandon the .45 in 1911 but simply add to it. Mine, for example, is only a range gun.

Because ammo is cheaper...  How much does one of these colts cost?

why? because you can interchange 9mm and 38super barrels, 2 calibers 1 gun.

and 9mm is mighty cheap to shoot nowadays, almost down to 6bux a box compared to 10bux a box for 45acp.
