Been doing it for almost 2 years OP..lucky to get 4 hours of sleep a night, after a week or two of it I will then sleep most of a day and back to no sleep. Mines from a C-6-7 fusion last july, followed by complete rotator cuff/ slap tear surgery on my left shoulder last october, that was then followed up by left wrist surgery last december......I dream of feeling "normal" again...doesn't look promising though....

Booze.

Or.

Prescription pain killers. Good old fashion doctor dope.

Don't mix them. Not a good plan. Just ask any number of rock stars. Oh, wait...

Seriously, though:

Is this a recurring pain? Like, permanent? Or a new and temporary thing? Like a recent non major injury?

I've got bulging/herniated disks at C5/C6 and C6/C7 plus spinal stenosis.  I see neuro on Wednesday and hopefully find out what is going to be done to fix my neck.

OP, as a man with a fucked shoulder and a tweaked back, i would suggest finding a good heating pad and a tall glass of whiskey, very few things aid sleep when you are in that kind of pain

Sleep schedule got all fucked in the last week, have to be at work in an hour. Couldn't sleep tonight, just said fuck it and have to do an all nighter and stay caffeinated through the day so I can go to sleep at a normal time and get back on track.

My insomnia is 100% brain activity not pain, so not much use to you but ambien is what allows me slumber.  Granted, tonight I've had to double up everything to get there, but oh well.  As long as I wake up, that's all the matters, right?

On my left side with two pillows under my head.  Seems to be the only position that takes the pressure of the impinged nerves in the neck.

Insomnia for me too.

I've slept a total of 4 hours since Sunday.

ETA: I will admit this is probably one of the worse bouts. Stress from school and putting my dog down over the weekend is exacerbating it.

The worst is laying in bed for hours with your eyes shut just trying to sleep.
Sorry about your dog man.

Thanks man. I still got my young one so it helps take the sting out.

I hate that too, for me it's like I can't calm my mind down. Always thinking about stupid bullshit.

Oh man, I'm sorry (about your dog).  Yeah, that will do it for sure.  And school goes without saying.  Finals week for me was "read the book for the first time" week so it went without saying there was no sleep.

Man, I feel for you.  When carpal tunnel gets bad, you can't sleep more than 3-4 hours without waking up in serious pain, and it does totally fuck with your sleep.  Maybe not the same thing you're experiencing, but along the same lines.

Hope the doc can help you out.
