I need some opinions about muzzle breaks. I just got a steal on post A2 .223 16". Whats the best muzzle break to put on this weapon. I heard the Smith is #1.

I have a Mini Y-Comp muzzle BRAKE (not "break")on mine.  It may be loud, but the brake significantly reduces muzzle climb.

Don't break the muzzle!![:D]

I find the vortex works, is it a brake? I would say no, it is a flash hider. Many here will swear by the Phantom brake, you decide on what works for your needs.

Can't go wrong with Kurt's Kustom - check out the industry forum.

I have a Wilson on my 16", but I WISH I had put one of Kurt's on.  He custom-built a brake for my M17S, and he does outstanding work!

Unless I am mistaken:
Brakes are for recoil reduction,

Compensators are for muzzle-flip reduction, and

Flash suppressors are for flash reduction.

There are some combination units, the A2 style FP and comp comes to mind.
