Just got a call from my wife. Both dogs got skunked tonight. They ran into the house before she realized it.
I'm working all night and can't be of help. It is supposed to get COLD tonight so we can't leave them out on the porch.

Go to pet smart or any pet store and get some skunk-b-gone, that stuff is amazing.
Otherwise, I wish you luck. Last time it happened to me he took a full shot to the face, ran inside through his dog door and started rubbing his face on the carpet, it took about 5 seconds before we smelled what was going on.....that was a real special night. |

The sure fire recipe is Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide and Dawn Dish Washing Detergent in equal parts. Throw them in the tub and shampoo. Sit 5 minutes to work and then rinse. Repeat for another 5 minutes. Smell be gone. The Dawn cuts the skunk oil and the Hydro and Baking Soda neutralize the smell.
We tried all the other recipes and still had some funk but this one works perfect. You can scrub it into the carpet too if necessary. |

And for a quick remedy Masengil Vinegar and Water douche works pretty good too......seriously. Used to carry some in my truck when I had my dog out in the field just in case. J- |

This yes. 2 times. Damned dumb dag. |
| Mine got skunked last summer right in the face. He came back around the house drooling and snotting like he had gone through the OC chamber. The peroxide, baking soda, dish soap concoction really works. Only needed to do it once that night, and all residual stink was slight and stuck to him. |

The molecules bond with each other, where H2O can't, and the dish soap acts as a vehicle to wash away the oil as it flows away with the water. |

Tomato juice does work, if you use enough of it. I've used it plenty of times. You have to soak them pretty good, down to the skin, then you have to shampoo them to get the tomato juice off.
That being said, I would suggest the the Dawn/peroxide/baking soda mix or Petsmart shampoo first. I didn't know about such things back when we had our little skunk killer. |

Tomato juice doesn't do shit! This. Our dog got skunked ONCE. It ran right by me and into the house before I realized what happened. Jumped on the couch, on the bed, rubbed on the carpet, all before we could get her "quarantined" into the downstairs bathroom. Dish soap, peroxide, and baking soda was the solution. |

My dogs are spoiled.
They don't even smell this morning when I got home. That solution of bakin soda etc works great. It appears my GSD got bit on the face by it though. Small injury on the muzzle. He's had his rabies vaccinations so hoping he should be good. Especially since he was slobbering all over me before I noticed the bite. |
