holy shit I'm in a rage this morning.how long does it last? |
| It varies wildly. Through my job I have a lot of exposure to people who have quit smoking. It runs the gamut from people who put them down and never have the urge again, to people who say that they have been quit for twenty years or more and say that when they smell one they still want it badly, and if they were to smoke one they would go right back to two to three packs per day. |
|
Ecigs work better. No sense in going through this. You'll have cravings for months, even years. The slight smell of cig smoke on a balls hot summer day still drives me nuts.
Anyway, the ecig gives you the ability to very slowly lower the nicotine level over time. Once at or near zero its stupid easy to quit. |

Congrats man!
How long it bothers you will vary. I quit 3 months ago, and after the second day or so felt pretty OK with the whole situation. Getting past the habit of actually doing it was the hard part for me(Driving, after meals, with the morning coffee, etc.). I'm at the point now that I really don't have a desire, even if I smell someone else smoking. In fact, the stale cigarette smell that is all over a smoker makes me ill. |
|
You'll have mild freak-outs for a couple of days. Within a week, you'll smell someone who just smoked and it will start to gross you out. If you live with a smoker, date a smoker, or your group of friends all smoke...good luck, it'll be tough.
Food tasting better never really happened for me but my metabolism did speed up to levels I had in my 20's. Look around and you'll see a lot of fat smokers. I dropped like 15lbs in 1 month by only quitting smoking. |
|
It's a mindset. If you are trying to quit it will last a long time, maybe for the duration. If you quit with no
possibility of ever smoking again then it is over, no cravings, no nothing. I "tried" to quit numerous times, always failed. When I quit, versus "trying to quit", never wanted one again. That was in 1982. |
|
Usually 3-4 days. I was a pack a day smoker for 15 years then quit 5 years ago. I was hungover really bad after my buddies wedding and just said fuck it and never smoked again. It sucks BAD for the first 48 hours but will get better in a week. I was a complete dickhead to my wife and family for many months after I quit but it's worth it.
I still smell someone smoking or see their hand to mouth action on the cig and I want one but I don't HAVE to have one. |
|
Quoted: LMAO.... it lasts a month or so. Go pick up a can of chew to help calm yourself. I've been smokeless for over a month but I have a dip in my mouth right now. ![]() Quoted: Quoted: quit yesterday mid day ![]() |

I used a patch for about a week to make it easier. Going cold turkey, you'll probably feel like shit for 2-3 days. The lack of a cigarette in your hand will be like a ghost limb for awhile. Just try to hang with it. About a week. This is a very good description with the "ghost limb". |

These will replace the nicotine while stopping the cravings and irritability. You can thank me later. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51RZ4gigXvL._SY300_.jpg I used the patch. Been nicotine free for 5.5 years now. Didn't follow the directions, though. Used each patch size for at least twice as long as instructed. Largest size the longest, to get used to getting my nicotine from the patch and not a cigarette. Then stepped down to the middle long enough (again, twice as long as directed ) to get used to and comfortable with the dosage. Then stepped down to the smallest, again, long enough to get used to the dosage. I then cut the smallest in half and used that for four or five weeks, just as a mental crutch I guess. Then stopped using them all together. Worked great at weaning myself off the death sticks. |

I'm quitting today as well. I have too much to live for to be putting nails in my coffin every day. The toughest thing for me is the scheduled appointments I have to smoke....driving as well is a challenge as right when I get in the car I think about it. Time to be a man for my family though.
Good luck OP!!!!! Stay Strong!!!! |

Quit 3 weeks ago.
At moments it sucks bad. Using nicorette as the reward, after lunch morning drive. Have to chew it correctly to get the proper release, it's not regular gum. It helps me get through the triggers. All I know is, I used to smoke in the garage at home. When my 3 year old asked where I was going i tell her " to check the garage". She said she didn't want me checking the garage anymore and wanted me to stay here for a really long time. Quit that day. My 13 year old son told me " thank you for quiting." If I start smoking again Im just a selfish prick. Not gonna happen. Set. Also the vape thing is just trading one addiction for another. It just tells my son his father is weak. |

I am to the point where I still use an ecig, but the smell and taste of cigarettes just turn my stomach. Since I've started ecigs, I've cut my nicotine by half. I'm about ready to cut it again. My cousin's wife quit smoking this way. Kept lowering the nic content in her juice until she finally got to zero. At that point, she said she would forget to take it with her when she went places, would suddenly realize she hadn't touched it in hours, etc. Finally, she just got tired of dealing with it and put it away. It takes a while, though, and I think a lot of people give up too quickly. |

I had a headache for a month.
I quit because my daughter was more precious to me than anything. She was 7 at the time and i was a bear to be around. I told her to be prepared and God bless her, she put up with my shit. It wasn't easy, but hey, you make your choices. That was 19 years ago and i still feel the urge occasionally. Stay strong! |

Been about a month here. The cravings are the worst the first few days, and you may have them for like 2 weeks. |

This explains it:
http://ecig-reviews.net/using-e-cigarettes-quit-smoking/ People just expect to pick up an ecig and magically quit smoking, then magically quit ecigs. In reality, there's a process, just like with any nicotine cessation program. |

Day 23 for me. Still want one, but not raging for them. Quit for 12 years, started again about 8 years ago, getting tired of the cost and being out of breath all the time. Fuck it, I'm done. Still have 2 packs in the truck, unopened. Head out there right and curb stomp those smokes!! Smash em'. |

So is nicotine gum. If you get on ecigs with the mindset that you will follow a plan to reduce your nic level to 0, that's not another addiction. Quoted:

Funny thing for me... I quit cold turkey(smoking first then dipping)... And after the first week I can have "just one" cigarette if I'm having a beer and be totally fine and not start back up or crave more. It's just that first few days that's horrible. I think I was smoking/chewing more out of habit and boredom than actually "needing" it.
OP... You may want to grab some straws from a fast food joint and cut them in half.... When you get the urge chew on one... May give you some satisfaction... I guarantee that it'll be the habit that's harder to quit... Not the nicotine... If that makes sense. And this may sound really... Really weird... Someone told me once that smoking is all mental... We enjoy watching the smoke... If you relapse go to a dark space in your home... Like the basement that has NO light or in a dark closet and smoke a whole cigarette in TOTAL darkness.(has to be total darkness that all you see is the cherry).. I guarantee you that it tastes totally different and is fucking HORRIBLE! |

Nicorette or snus is a good choice. 3 or 4 years this month since I quit for good. I used snus for a couple of months and quit that for good as well. |
