We don't have any good book recommendation threads, so I'm starting one.  If possible, please include a link to the books in case any members want to buy them.

Donald R. Burgett: First hand accounts from basic, through D-Day in the 101 Airborne, and their march to Berlin.  Hell of a series, and the books have photos he took back then. You can get all 4 for under $10

I recently read the Jumper series, and I enjoyed them. The last book jumped the shark a bit, and was excessive with technical detail, but I still think it's a great series. The books are Jumper, Reflex, Impulse, and Exo. Just about the only thing Jumper the book has in common with the movie are some of the names, and the premise that the main character can teleport.

I also really like The Dresden Files books.

The Sergeant in the Snow

About a badass Italian NCO on the Eastern Front who attempts to lead his men out of an encirclement despite
hopeless odds and incredibly harsh winter conditions. True story......

I knew I was going to like it when he was listing off the items he was carrying when his unit began their
escape attempt

6.5mm rifle with as many clips as he could find for it
Number of grenades
backpack and field gear
tripod for the Breda 8mm MMG
wooden case of 8mm Breda ammo.......

that damn Breda saved his unit's bacon so many times....

The John Rain series by Barry Eisler are some of the best books I've read.

For Sci-Fi: Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan. Sort of an updated Nueromancer vibe with a sharper focus.
