Gents,
I have a couple of CMP rifles that I've had for a number of years that I may put up for sale here soon. I noticed when perusing a couple of other ads on gunbroker that the seller had what appeared to be a copy of a CMP certificate with the original owners name blacked out. I was never really comfortable with a CMP cert with my name on it floating around anyway, so is this acceptable when selling a CMP rifle? Should I just make the buyer aware in the ad that they'll get a copy of the cert with my name blacked out? I realize these days that anyone with a printer can make up anything, but I would also think CMP provenance would be fairly easy to prove with a phone call...

Thanks for any thoughts.

And you're famous, RIGHT?

That is what some people do.  The rifle will be easier to sell with the certificate as the CMP will not grant another, even if you pay the fee for them to research whether it came through them.

I usually lose those certs.  I can't find my High School or College diploma either.

Certificates will establish that the Garand came from the CMP.  That is important.

I would not buy one that came with an copy of the certificate.

Nah...not famous...and you're right; there's enough other pieces of paper with my name on it floating around that I really shouldn't worry about it. Just thought I'd ask.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I'd feel more comfy buying an M1 online if it had a cert.  YMMV.

In person - it wouldn't hurt.  But at least I could more or less inspect to my heart's content.
