Good (early) morning GD. My NG unit had asked me if I'd be interested in going to the small arms instructor course for the Army. As a former USMC POG who had the privilege of attending the Machine Gunners Course at the Combat Skills Training School at Camp Pendelton, the CROWS system operator course at 29 Palms, and serve as my units armory custodian needless to say I was thrilled they asked me. Forget the fact that I'm the resident gun nut at my civilian job and within my circle of friends. Anyways, I'm looking for some info on the Small Arms Master Gunner Course or Small Arms Weapons Expert Course, whatever they are calling it these days. I'm hoping the funding is there for me to go because I'd love nothing more than to spend two full weeks shooting on Uncle Sam's dime. I believe they said the course is in April. Any info provided would be much appreciated.

It's nothing like Bradley MG.

You'll do 20 level stuff, and run a range or two.

They'll teach you how to make shooting painfully boring.

ETA: I've not been, but one of my buddies went to it in Graff at the same time I was there for Sabot, so my information is second-hand.

The few things I could find on the net said the course was very laid back but filled with info from good instructors. If I could learn to run a range and such that would be great since a deployment prevent me from going to the PMI course in the Marine Corps.

It's a gentleman's course, AFAIK. Don't know what the passing scores for the tests are though, probably have to draw some SDZs, take tests over weapon's maintenance, stuff like that.
