| Heading to Chicago this week for my cousin's Navy basic graduation. The super low airfare I got has me flying out Wednesday morning so I have 2 days to kill. I've never been to Chicago before so what is there that is fun to do that doesn't end in me getting shot? |
|
Museum of Science and Industry - captured U-Boat Field Museum Art Institute of Chicago - Ferris went there, "American Gothic" "Nighthawks" among others Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House if you like that kind of stuff. If it's still open, the Jelly Belly factory used to have a cool gift shop if you have kids to bring stuff back for. It's close to GLNTC Been a while since I've been there so I'm not up on all the cool bars and restaurants. |

Quoted: Museum of Science and Industry. Field Museum if you like dinosaur bones. Adler Planetarium Shedd Aquarium The MSI should be first on your list. Food: Gino's East or Lou Malnati's for pizza. x2. I pretty much grew up at all those places. Lived on pizza, italian beef, and vienna beef hotdogs which are the only hotdogs I acknowledge as being hotdogs. |

| I deliver out west around Aurora/Joliet/Romeoville almost every week. Several people have recommended Portillo's for hot dogs, though I haven't found one that has truck parking close enough to let me try it out yet. The one on their billboard looks like road-kill, but I guess a proper Chicago Dog is supposed to. |
| Go to the Chicago Brauhaus and have an incredible German meal. |
|
Go to the Willis Tower and visit the observation deck. Awesome view when its clear out. El Hefe is a cool sports bar type mexican food joint. Awesome atmosphere on game days. Rooftop at the Wit if you want to day club it up on Saturday. lol. But seriously, its pretty cool.
ETA- Fogo de Chao if you want to get your fat kid on. Wear sweatpants. |

I go out to Chicago for work every so often but mainly in the northern suburbs. I'm bummed I haven't been able to make it to the Art Institute. |

This is a pretty complete list but you left out the Art Institute of Chicago. I saw a Monet exhibition there years ago and it was pretty damn awesome. And, if the weather is ok, go to the 1st Infantry Division museum at Cantigny. Lots of armor and artillery outside and a great museum inside. |

If you like hockey Chicago has both an NHL and AHL. Blackhawks are on a roll and minor league is always good. Specially if they are playing against Milwaukee. Hawks are at home Tuesday night. If you are at all interested in hockey, it's a great time. The UC has been sold out for the past ~250 games. NHL ticket exchange has some pretty reasonable seats available if you're interested. |

Beautiful city. Lots of stuff to see and do. Just avoid the south side, the north side, the south west side, the north east side, the south south-west side, the north north-west side, downtown, Navy Pier, Back of the Yards, New City, Lincoln Park....fuck that place.
But, if you do go, bring a lot of cash because everything costs money. Unlike London, Paris, or even St. Louis or Cleveland, all the museums charge and they aren't cheap. A weekend in Chicago is like spending a weekend at an NFL stadium or Disney World $$$$$ |
