Another thread got me thinking that I'd like to get some lawn chairs of the old fashioned variety with the webbing, not the folding camp style chairs that are ubiquitous now. So off to amazon I went. The ONLY aluminum, classically styled chairs I could find were 50 bucks! What in the world happened to cheap folding chairs?

Beach chairs are still made that way, if you don't mind sitting really, really low to the ground.

It was always a race between the webbing rotting out or the weak ass pins shearing.

I don't think they suck at all and are way more comfortable and lighter than the 4 way folding canvas chairs.
I had 2 from 25-30 years ago that saw heavy use in their day and I re-webbed them a couple years ago. Still going strong. |

The webbing was shit on those things even back in the good old days of everyone being skinny. It would rot, and start to disintegrate after one season. |

WOW I guess I must be getting old, because I think the new ones suck, I hate them!
those ones that fold up into a bag, that have these pieces of shit that go right under your upper leg/ thigh area, and just fucking suck i hate them. give me the old fashion ones WAY more comfortable, last WAY longer, just built better. I got one from lowes online, not as good as older but acceptable. |

I just realized something.
The older style chairs that the majority are saying "sucked" promoted good posture. You sat up right in them. The new style chairs that are everywhere that the majority say are "better" do not promote good poster. They curve your back and make you slump down in them. |
|
Yes! They are much lighter than the canvas ones we use today, and the canvas ones take forever to dry.

Steel frame -- too damn heavy to carry to a concert at the local park. High end ones -- also too heavy and too expensive. Wood -- great for elderly people who "summer" in coastal New England. ETA: "those cheap ass chairs from Walmart that fit in a tube bag" -- force you to slump your back, uncomfortable. There is a website that still sells the classic ones, don't have the url handy. |
