Ok, so I have a chance to get a surefire m962 KIT01 (halogen bulb) never used for around 200 bucks. Should I fo? Seems like a deal to me.

Sure, why not.
Maybe later you can upgrade to an LED if you feel the need.

I've bought a few brand new for less than $50 on eBay.

I wouldn't. a quick search shows either 125 or 250 lumen bulb. For half that price you could get a different LED light that is 3 or 4 times better for half of the price.

People have been dumping m952v's in EE lately. $130-150 for white/IR. The mount looks like it could hold a fucking truck wheel in place, but I like them.

ETA: Then you can justify spending $2-4k on a PVS-14, because you've already spent the $150 on the light for it.

That would have been a smoking deal about ten years ago - but technology has passed them by. Sure, you can upgrade, but by the time you spend the coin you're going to be close to $300. Currently the best LED upgrade for that light is the Malkoff MD10 LINK for $89.

For $289, you can buy a smaller, more modern light that is better in every conceivable metric. I'm not knocking the M962 - I own several of them, along with the M500 series forends that use the same bulb and bezel.

Ultimately, what would you rather haul around, a 3-cell M962, like this:

Or a more modern LED Scout at a fraction of the size and weight:

Good luck either way!

Edited for atrocious spelling and shitty pictures.
