So I just closed on my first house this last Friday.  It was a new construction and has a 900 sq ft basement I will be finishing myself, figured you guys might be interesting in watching the progress as it happens. Here are some pics throughout the initial build process.
Foundation poured:

Building materials arrived:

Frame work done:

Siding and brick done:

And now the interior...
Kitchen:

Living Room:

And the mass chaos that is now my living room:

Bathroom and bedrooms are just that, a bathroom and bedroom, nothing too exciting...The upper level has 2 bedrooms, along with 1 bathroom. The plan is to finish a 3rd bedroom in the basement, unfinished utility room, a bathroom and large family room.
And now the unfinished stuff...
3rd bedroom:

Future family room:

And last but not least the garage:

So the current plan is to throw up some insulation and plastic in the garage just for a little extra insulation throughout the winter, after this is done I'll be starting on the 3rd bedroom.  I'll post progress pics as I go on this, but don't expect it to happen over night!

ETA: Forgot to add there is a 10' x 10' deck in the back of the house.  I'll be adding stairs this spring/summer to this down to a patio with a built in fire pit.  I'm looking forward to doing the patio the most.

I'm confused, I don't see a basement. Isn't the house constructed on a slab??

ETA: I see it now!

It's a bad picture of the foundation and can see how you would think it's on a slab but it isn't. The house is built as a split foyer so there is an upper and lower level.

ETA: Here's a better pic:

House looks nice.

If I lived in SD I might build further than 10 feet away from my closest neighbor though.

I didn't have much choice on the lot as the development is getting quite built up.  However I am on the very edge of town (my neighbors across the street have a corn field in their backyard).

A question on the basement if you don't mind ... should you use a vapor barrier on the walls? I was always under the assumption that in the basement, the barrier will keep any moisture trapped between the concrete and the barrier, and saturate the insulation. If you don't use a barrier, it allows the vapor to dry to the inside.

I'm not for sure, that's how the contractor left it.  Being as they've built over 4,000 homes since 1990, I'll leave it with what they did. Something I'll have to look into though!

You mean they don't doze them into piles and burn them?

Yep, you are correct for a quarter of em in my area. The others bought their own excavators to push em over and bury them.

Beat me to it. I didn't think plastic as a vapor barrier was recommended anywhere anymore either above or below grade.

Did they insulate under the slab and the basement floor? Exterior basement walls got any insulation? Did they tape the sheathing? Exterior insulation under the siding?

This time of year in SD I'd have thought insulating that garage would be priority 1 there OP.

The garage has been in the 40's consistently when it's below freezing outside, not bad but still chilly if I want to work on a vehicle.
