Hokay, So. Me and the wife went off on a week vacation to visit some friends and we left our cat at home. My parents live in the same city so we gave them a key and told them how much to feed her and when. Long story short they ended up feeding her almost 4 times the amount that we asked.... Our cat has always had weight problems. She just loves food. well now she is even more of a fatass. as in she was 16lbs, and now she is almost 19lbs... in ONE week.. Here is where arf comes in. We are already going to significantly reduce the food she gets. But im looking for exercise info for cats in general. We have the lazer mouse and she loves it. how long should i be making her chase it. pic of fatass: |

First off, I would recommend spending the coin on a good weight control formula of food. Science Diet is what we give our overweight lazy ass Ragdoll and he seems to be doing ok on it. As far as excercise.. it's a cat, good luck with that. Mine will do about 5 laps back and forth across the living room with the laser pointer and then he goes and collapses in a corner. This 17.5lb bag lasts about a month. |

I have a cat that looks just like that. If I start pushing him around with my foot, he gets in this weird mood where he howls and rubs frantically against the furniture. Then he'll attack my foot until I yell, then I go back to kicking him in the butt. But really the best way for the thing to lose weight is to cut its food. He'll even be less sleepy and more active with less to digest. |

I bolted a bowl to the table next to my desk so he doesn't slap it off, and feed him when I leave for work, and get home from work. If he is being really annoying late at night, I'll give him a tablespoon full of low fat yogurt... it doesn't mess with his weight, and seems to keep the unpleasant smells down in the litterbox. |

She is still gaining weight. She also cheats on her diet , chowed down 3 mice tonight and is out looking for number 4. I have thought of just letting her eat mice but she goes crazy if the cat food is not provided at the correct time. |

Quoted: Just stick with the diet. She'll gradually lose weight. Find toys that she likes and leave them out. Laser pointer ad lib. She'll do fine. «tc2k11» is the idea to wear out the fatass with the laser, or just for like 5 10 min

I would buy her a bag of good quality dry cat food and simply feed her the advised portion. My dog go hurt this past summer (kicked by a horse) and when I took him to the vet ~ I was told he was fat. So I just cut back on his food. Now he is a healthy weight. It's not like I bought him a doggy treadmill or anything. He's a lab so he will eat as long as there's food in front of him. Your cat is a kitty equivalent to a lab so stop feeding it so much. |

Awwwww. Are you feeding her mostly dry food or wet? A lot of cats will lose weight if you switch from dry to wet. My vet told me the same thing and gave me some literature explaining it. It isn't the dry vs. wet it's the mostly meat vs. not so much meat and how it triggers their metabolism and hunger center, according to that info. My fat bastard isn't too fat (8 lbs) and hasn't gained any in 4 years, so I never tried the all wet food route, so I don't know if it really works. |
|
High protein, low fat, and low carb food.
I've been using this food for my fat cat. http://www.nutro.com/natural-cat-food/max-cat-food/dry/weight-control-indoor-cat.aspx This stuff allows me to give her larger amounts of food than some other brands and she still loses weight. kcal/cup of food is important to check when looking to drop your cats weight. |
|
Someone suggested Science Diet, that food is pure shit.
Also, any dry food is terrible for a cat. They are obligate carnivores, they get hydrated from their food. Cat's on a predominately dry diet are physically incapable of drinking enough water to keep them hydrated. The more wet food you feed, the better. Dry food is full of carbs, which cats do NOT need, but can become addicted to, like an addict to drug of their choice. |

We have a female that ballooned after being spayed. Went from 10 to 20 lbs. Can't lick her butt. Vet put her on Hills prescription diet for weight management, wD I think.
After 1.5 years, she hasn't lost much weight at all. Feed her about 3/8 cup of Hills Indoor twice a day, run her a bit with a laser. |

The cat also wanted to be an outside cat and we finally just gave in. Kitty is a lot lighter now even though we feed her good. I guess the added activity is what is doing it. |

Brewers Rice, Chicken By-Product Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Powdered Cellulose, Chicken Liver Flavor, Soybean Oil, Lactic Acid, Calcium Sulfate, Potassium Sulfate, Choline Chloride, DL-Methionine, Iodized Salt, Potassium Chloride, vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), Niacin Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement), Taurine, minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), L-Carnitine, Mixed Tocopherols for freshness, Beta-Carotene, Natural Flavors. Ingredients from the Science Diet W/D cat food. Pure grain, which cat's can't process, only meat mention is by-products, which are shit scraps of meat with little meat content. There are much better options on the market, and just because your vet says to use it, it is a shit food, and terrible for your cat. |
| I have 110% trust in my vet and her decisions. She has worked miracles with two of my cats this year. If she thinks wD is the right food, then that is what I use. The only reason I stopped buying wD is because I'm buying two cases of cD a month for the aforementioned cats. |

I know my cat is active , she chases birds and never catches them and chases mice and does catch them. She is always hungry and no matter how little I feed her (Science Diet Lite) she is still gaining weight. (2-1/2 yo spayed tabby) |

Cat's are incapable of processing grains, and the wet food will keep her hydrated. |

It's far from the best offering out there, but any canned food your cat will eat is better than the best dry food on the market. What area are you in? Quoted:

Guess I'm going to have to start looking. Is Science Diet wet food worth a damn? It's far from the best offering out there, but any canned food your cat will eat is better than the best dry food on the market. What area are you in? I am thinking of a new plan,If I were to harvest a pigeon or two in the morning for the cat and the mouse or three that she catches at night, would that be enough wet food to keep her healthy? I could still give her some wet or dry to keep her happy. |

One of my customers feeds his cat nothing but mice. He lets me know when he's placing an order, so I can get a price break on mice for my snake. |

1) Clear all of the furniture out of a bedroom with a hardwood floor. 2) Trim cat's nails. 3) Tie noisy bell to cat's tail. 4) Toss cat in room and close door. 5) Turn up stereo. 6) After 20-30 minutes, grab a pair of scissors, don leather welding gloves, slowly open door, snatch cat, and quickly cut string on bell. Start with one session per day and adjust accordingly. My cat will only chase a laser or one of those mouse on a string things for 5 minutes or so before she gets bored and lays down. Usually right after I go to bed she gets all wound up and races around the house like a retard for 5 or more minutes. Sometimes she'll attack me when I'm on my way to bed, which gets me chasing her around for a bit. I once tried to get her on my treadmill, that did not turn out well, I've got a pretty good doctor and you can't hardly see the scars .My cat is pretty good about grazing, so I just fill up the bowl in the morning and she eats when she wants through the day. |
