I used to have money in mutual fund 2006 and earlier.
Is that still something good post recession? Should i go with stocks. Should i go with a firm? I only want to start with a few thousand for fear of losing it. |

Pick one of Vanguards all in one funds.
Start with what you're comfortable with and dollar cost average in with the rest. |
